Atlee wins Capital District

Congrats to Atlee! I saw them at the Manchester Spring Break Tournament earlier in year and was impressed with their bats. It sucks that they'll probably get rewarded with a matchup with James River. But, anything can happen. Best of luck to the Raiders on Monday....

why does it suck for them yto get matched up with Jr...a numberr 2 seed? Iff they had lost they would have played the number 1 seed IF ythey won their tournament

I'm not going to make any predictions, but I think Atlee belongs in any discussion with the best teams in the area. They now have two wins against Hanover, they split with Lee-Davis, and they lost at Cosby after taking a lead to the bottom of the 7th. They have one bad loss which was the first game of the year to Freeman. Simply put, I would not make any assumptions about the outcome of a game with James River.

i guess that extra game puts Hanover in a tough spot. now have to beat Lee Davis who will hjave full use of their pitching with Hanover coming off a 10 inning game using 10 innings of their pitching.

I'm not saying that they can't beat JR, just that it's a tough matchup for a team that won their title only to get a team that most considered a state title contender in the first round of the region. I wasn't trying to slight Atlee's accomplishments or their chance of beating JR. Sorry for the confusion

Frankly James River is not playing all that well of late. It's not a given that they'll even be in the regionals. We'll find out later today.

If JR gets in they will possibly be the toughest #2 seed at the Diamond...i thought it was kind of a slight to the #1 seed in the Dominion who #2 seed from Capital will play

I said it on another post, but I'll say it again here. In my opinion the top five teams in the area are Cosby, Atlee, Hanover, James River, and Dinwiddie in some order. Not that I'm breaking any ground there because that's the top five of the polls I've seen.

If everyone holds serve, two of the matchups on Monday will be Atlee vs. James River and Cosby vs. Hanover. Those should be two great games and no outcome of either game would surprise me. Hanover and Cosby did play last week with Cosby winning 5-4 at home. I don't think either team threw their top pitchers though so I'm not sure how much that game tells us.

But I've already gotten ahead of myself...both Hanover (against Lee-Davis) and James River have real tough matchups tonight.

And all the talk is for nothing...Lee-Davis beat Hanover tonight to take the Capital District's 2nd spot in the regional tournament. Hanover goes 3-6 over their last nine games after starting 12-0. It'll be Atlee vs. James River and Cosby vs. Lee-Davis on Monday.

In an upset Prince George knocks of dinwiddie 2-1 to hand them their first loss of 2011.....they will play either Matoaca or Thomas Dale to determine second Regional bid from Central District
