Wow, culture shock. Nothing to do at home last weekend so a fried and I took the 400 mile trip south to sunny, warm St Louis for a round of golf and to watch the kids first collegient start.
Early conclusions were that my golf game needs more than the winters rest I had imagined. I still hate driving any distances. I lost 39.75 at Harrahs (because I refused to lose all $40 I put in). And, I now look at a hotel as a place to rest not party.
To top that off for the first time in my life I felt like the parent of an adult .
Now the college baseball. What a difference in play, in attitude, and in preparation. I was expecting to see this wet behind the ears 18 year old on the mound. Instead, I saw this athlete who has blended in with the rest of the adult males on the team to form a close knit family. Where were my Depends when I needed them.
On a good note Ryan got the win and improved to 2-0-2. In St Louis he went 7 innings, allowed 7 hits, 3 earned runs, 13k's, and 1 walk.
The drive home was still the pits, my golf still needs much work, I still lost $39.75 to a stinkin machine, but this parent of an adult slept well seeing what I did on and off the field.
