Guys do you really think a college coach cares what a Freshmans batting average is? When they come and ask us about a player they could careless what he hit as a Freshman. They really dont care much about what there avg is right now. There are a ton of good HS hitters that can look like studs against 78-80 and are totally out of there league against mid to upper 80's. First of all what type of competition are you facing? You go 4-4 against the guy throwing 75 and you go 0-4 against the guys throwing 85 but your hitting .500. Does that mean anything to a college coach when he sees a piece of paper showing him your hitting .500? NO. Lets dont even get into how some people keep stats as well. Stats are basically meaningless to a college recruiter. They want to see you swing the stick against quality pitching. They want to see your batspeed and your approach. HS stats are skewed so much by the difference in the level of competition and the fact that you only play 25 30 games in an entire season. During that season you might not face but 4 or 5 quality pitchers and some years not one single college level pitcher. Stats are meaningless when evaluating a hitter for the next level. College coaches will tell you this as well. Hows the Jones boy we heard he can hit. Hes batting 500 coach. No wrong answer. He has great batspeed and can hit velocity. He has a solid approach and hits the ball consistently hard. But I know you want to see him this summer when hes playing on the scout team Etc.
