Anyone have any experience with this? This is a camp run by ASU pitching coach Ken Knutson, and some of his former players. It's really pricey, but does anyone have any experience with this and is this worth the money? I know Ken was considered one of the best college pitching coaches in the country, and this seems pretty legit but wanted to hear some feedback.

I have heard he is really good too, but I don't think he coaches at ASU anymore, and yes, I think it is way to pricey for us.

Pricey is an understatement.  I just got an email for a 3 day weekend pitching camp for $1600!

Agreed.  There is no way my family could afford to send our boy to this camp...

I have a strong background with coach Knutson going back to my playing days and he is the real deal.  I'll be sending my 8th grader to the December boot camp.  The price represents an incredible value considering your son will walk away with 1) an individualized physical assessment, 2) world class physical and mental instruction, and 3) a customized training program and a bag full of tools to help him train for future success after the camp ends.  You get what you pay for!

You may get what you pay for, but I can't get what I can't pay for...

My son went to this camp this last weekend.  I did not attend the first 2 days, parents were encouraged to attend and ask questions, but I did show up on Monday. Coach Knutson came over and introduced himself and told me what they had been learning.

They had several ex-ASU pitchers that had been drafted at the camp, either working or just stopping by to get some work in and they were all great at working with the boys and answering questions.

My son came out of the weekend with an individual plan for him on what he needs to do to keep his arm healthy and increase velocity. My son walked me through some of the PowerPoints they went through.  They were loaded with "how to pitch" information, which was fun to read.

Bottom line, if you can swing the cost, it is definitely worth it!

Did your son end up going to this camp? How did he like it? I saw there are some stuff available for a few weekends this month, and I just have enough money saved up to possibly go, just want to know if it's worth it.

Sorry, I haven't been around much in the last few weeks...

My son DID go to the 'college pitcher's camp' over the break. He learned some new drills for dry work, which were beneficial. He also learned some other drills for keeping his mechanics together during the season. In my mind, it was money well spent.

Coach Ken is now working with the Indians pitchers if I understand correctly. They will be better for it.

Wanted to update on this camp.

Son is in the middle of a weekend 3 day pitching boot camp and he is loving it.  It's 9 hours of instruction (over 3 days) for $499 which is not horribly expensive considering he is working side-by-side with not only Ken and his instructors but guys currently playing pro ball.  Son has been blessed with great coaching over the years and this is the real deal.  I highly recommend AZ Baseball Ranch.  There are only a handful of guys there so he is getting a tremendous about of information including a typed information packet so he can continue to work at home.

While I don't question the value of the three day camp, I question the ability of any pitcher not already familiar with the mechanics and feel of the delivery being taught (at this camp or any others) to keep the delivery intact for any period of time.

The problem with heading off to any clinic outside of a player's geographic location, is once the player's delivery begins to drift away from the teaching, without a PC schooled in that particular delivery, the player (and/or his coach) simply apply bandaid solutions to fix symptoms - without fixing underlying problems.

Every player - at every level - experiences this drift; theoretically, as you ascend the ranks of baseball, a pitcher will have more repeatable deliveries (culminating at MLB where most pitchers can repeat in a way HS pitchers can only dream about). But even at the highest levels PCs are constantly fighting the drifting away from the "perfect" delivery.

In my mind, find a high quality PC in your area, whose instruction is understandable and who has had a modicum of success in developing pitchers. A player may need to go through several, before he is comfortable with a PC. (My son had several up to HS. Then found The One he understood, who had a decent track record of developing pitchers. He's had that same PC for about 10 years - so there has been lots of consistency in the teaching philosophy and mechanics. Despite this, however, his delivery over long periods of time away drifts (with him it always drifts to the same chronic issues - easliy fixable, but occasionally reoccurring).)

Good points above by Goosegg.  However, I would emphasize that AZ Baseball Ranch is more about training and arm health than delivery and mechanics.  Having sent my son from San Diego to the December boot camp, I can tell you that he has followed the training program devised for him by Coach Knutson in a disciplined way since then - and has added several mph to his fastball as a result.
