Had a play the other day where the ball slipped out of our pitcher's hand as he was pitching. Didn't cross the foul line, so it was a balk.

Re-read the rule and noticed it says (in OBR) that if the ball "Slips" out of the hand, it is a balk. So here is a ridiculous question: What if the pitcher THROWS the pitch without it slipping out of his hand? For instance, it goes 58 feet and sticks in the mud? Or, hits the front of the plate and bounces back into fair territory without ever crossing the foul lines? No pitch?.....just got to wondering.
