Bases loaded. The pitcher is in the stretch. He executes the 3-1(fake to third and throw to first) Is this legal? You typically see this play with a man at 1st and 3rd only.
agree 100% its absolutely legal......think of it this way.....if it is legal with 1st and 3rd......then why would an occupied second base make it illegal?.....
Somethings the pitcher needs to be aware of- He must step to 3rd on the first part of the move, AND he then must step to 1st on the second part of the move. If he doesn't step to 1st, but rather pivots and throws, it is a balk.
That's an interesting twist in Fed rules. You are correct that if he disengages on the move to third then he can fake to first because he is an infielder. However, in Fed he can stay engaged and step back to first but he has to throw. In all other codes he has to disengage before any move to first. In all other coses if he doesn't come off it makes difference if he throws to first or not it is a balk.
