Fake to 3rd... good... no call, not a balk.

Fake to 2nd... good... no call, not a balk.

Fake to 1st... oops!!!... call it... "Time, that's a balk!"  and send the runner to 2nd base.

Naturally, of course, the pitcher must be a pitcher.  That is, he must be fully engaged on the rubber in the set position.

Now if he is in the windup and does anything other than step off (with his pivot foot first) then he is committed to the plate.  So if (from the windup) he faked to ANYWHERE or threw to any place not called home, then it's a balk.

Hope this helps.

That's not entirely correct.  In FED rules the pitcher cannot pick or fake in the windup, but it's legal in most other rule sets.  Unusual, but still legal.

WRONG!  It's not legal in NFHS.  And there's no way in MLB rules or anywhere else that you can be in a windup and make a motion to any other base except home.  And once the pitcher has committed to the plate, when he goes to or fakes anywhere else it's a balk.  That's why it's a balk.

You are completely misinformed.

First off FED is the same thing as NFHS.

Second, feel free to read rule 8.01 (a) (2) and then come back and explain how picking from the rubber is a balk.

Sigh. MLB Rules 8.01(a) comment:

From the Windup Position, the pitcher may:

(1) deliver the ball to the batter, or

(2) step and throw to a base in an attempt to pick-off a runner, or

(3) disengage the rubber (if he does he must drop his hand to his sides).

However, in FED rules, you may not pick without disengaging.

Q?)  So when have you ever seen a MLB pitcher throw or fake to a base from the windup?

Please send me the video link.

A!)  Never!  Because if he did it would be a balk.

Thank you for playing.

So, if you've never seen a major leaguer do it, it's against the rules? I quoted you from the rule book and you still hold this position. OK.

I asked a question and you "adults" can't be civil. I want to delete this post cause it's infuriating that its dwindled down to personal attacks. Guess I won't ask any more questions. Good job guys!

I'm going to take exception here to your plural use of adults. However, your answer is here if you can overlook the one outlier.
