balk or not

Not a Balk

Had somthing close to that last night, runner stealing second, pitcher spind and throws the ball into center field. Coach is yelling BALK, BALK BALK!

No balk. The only base which F1 is required to throw directly to is 1B. As long as he stepped toward 2B, his throw can go anywhere in that general direction. He just has to step toward the base he is throwing/feinting to. 3B would be the same.

Worked a U-14 tourny a few years back, one team ran this to perfection, twice I saw. R2, F1 spins and throws to F4 who's really not close to the bag, 8-10'. Amazing how runners will panic when they see a ball in front of them, neither time could F4 have beaten R2 too the bag, but R2's, one hesitated upon seeing F4 with the ball, the other actually broke for 3rd both were out easily.
