Balks??

just to be on the safe side ill ask first is a balk an error? which im pretty sure the answer is no, but why isnt it?

you are correct that it is NOT an error, and the only reason that I can give you is that that is what the authors of the rulebooks want. The only book I have easy access to right now is the NCAA book and it specifically list balk as an exception where an error is NOT charged. (10.16.e, exception 1) I know the OBR & NFHS rule it the same way, but I don't happen to have those rule references in front of me at the moment.
