I believe (umpires correct me if I am wrong) that a base coach is not restricted to the box. Base coaches need to be in a location that is situationally appropriate as determined by the baserunners.
I think that an umpire can request that a coach remain in the box IF the opposing team complains about the coach's positioning....for example, if the opposition thinks the coach is stealing the catcher's signs, etc.
Many fields today don't even have coaches boxes anymore.
Zebra pretty much had it...as long as the coach doesn't appear to be "stealing signs" from the other team or in some other way interfering in the play, he's not really restricted to the coaches box.

You can't stop him from stealing signs, no matter where he sets up.
