Any collectors here?

I am looking for advice to sell some of the cards I collected when I was a kid. I have complete sets from the 80's as well as other good cards. They haven't been graded so I am looking for some solid advice. Help?

The best advice I can give you is to go to Ebay and see if there is anything comparable, which would give you an idea of worth. We have found unless there are signatures which need to be certified authentic, most stuff isn't worth as much as we think it should be. Frown

Also try Beckett's.
You can go buy a Beckett's collectors magazine and start getting a rough idea of what you've got there. That's a lot cheaper than having your collection graded. If you've got some cards that are like $20 or more in Beckett's, you might want to have those professionally graded and cased.

I have a big ol' steamer trunk full of cards from the 60s and 70s, as well as some random stuff going back to some cigarette cards (no T-206 unfortunately!). I have no idea what it's all worth because I don't think I could ever sell any of it. I have told my kids the collection is theirs. I've got several Ryan Rookies, some Bench rookies, a Goudey Babe Ruth, a Rabbit Maranville, a Mordecai Brown tobacco card, all sorts of crazy stuff.

This is like my one solid connection to my youth and my grandparents who supplied me with many cards when I was a kid.
In 1961, when I was seven, my cousins mom gave my brother and I 2000 plus cards from 1951 to 1955. We also started collecting them ourselves at that time. Unfortunately no Mantle rookie card, but did manage to get three Ryan rookie cards ourselves in gum packs, one of which, not the best one, my brother sold for $800 in the 2000's. One night we stayed up until 4 am haggling with a dealer and sold him about $4000 dollars worth of some of our fifties and early sixties card including a 1962 Roger Maris for $100. We still have a lot of the cards including old football and boxing cards from the early 1950's including a young Rocky Marciano boxing card when he's in the middle of his career. Have several Stan Musial, Ted Williams. Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige, and a young Mickey Mantle on a card with Hank Bauer and Yogi Berra. I have not looked at many of these cards in 15 years.
