I'll get this started...

I would bet 2 of the top teams would be Great Bridge and Kellam. Some key players for both:

GB
Connor Jones, RHP/OF, UVA signee
Charlie Cody, INF, UVA commit
Taylor Lane, INF, Florida commit

Kellam
Sam Sinnen, RHP/INF, ODU signee
Turner Bishop, LHP/OF, ODU signee
Nick Walker, INF, ODU signee
Kyle Morrison, INF, Point Park signee
Kurt Sinnen, C, uncommitted
Tyler Boothe, INF/OF, uncommitted

What about Nansemond River? I know they lost some studs but they still have some horses and should make it competetive. Zach Rice, UNC signee should be fun to watch on the bump.

I think Kellam is the team to beat in the tidewater area. Their roster is full of D1 talent, they lost Mohnihan and he brought a lot of leadership and confidence but they get Bishop back. FC will be strong and Cox didn't lose anybody so they should compete.

Another Great Bridge kid to watch is junior RHP Logan Harrelson. This is not a guy who'll light up the RADAR guns -- at least, not yet -- but he has a solid 3-pitch mix, excellent spot control and an idea of how to set up hitters. To give you an idea, Logan threw 2 outings, 10 innings at the East Cobb 17u in July. He allowed no runs at all, struck out 11, walked none (did have one HBP) and yielded only 3 singles, compiling one of the more impressive stat lines in the very large tourney field. Obviously GB's depth kept him a bit buried on the depth chart last year, but look for his role to expand behind Jones this year.

I actually think Logan will end up in the 86-88 range before too long, but even running 81-84, as he does now, he can dominate a game.

I'm a big Dane Smith fan and I hope that someday he'll wear the Cardinals uniform we're saving for him. Unfortunately from injuries suffered last spring, he had labrum surgeries on both shoulders over the summer. The surgeries were done as soon as he was able, in hopes that he would be good to go this coming spring and summer. Here's hoping that all works out.

IMO, the usual suspects will be atop the SED - GB, WB, NR, Hickory. They have the best coaching and the better players.

I don't disagree, but this is sure to ruffle the same feathers from the all-district selection thread.

Boy you hit the nail on the head there, I was just getting ready to get my feathers ruffled in deference to the Oscar Smith boys....lol
But I am forced to and will refrain from making "bold" preseason predictions and just let the season play out. I would hate for my friend Sportsattorney to get all butt hurt before 2013.
Although I will reply with this one thought, they came within 4-5 runs of making the 6 team playoff last year (with some help from Deep Creek the last game) and won 8 games. They have 4 experienced Seniors for the first time in a long time and a couple of those seniors can play ball. They beat two really good teams last year, back to back, in GB (away) and NR (home) so I will retain a great hope for an even better year this year.

They will replace 7 of 8 position players, 6 of which are playing college ball, 2 of those in the ACC. They did pick up a transfer from Lakeland who will play a big role on the mound. Even with the loss of last years group they have a solid core of senior players, will probably start 6 seniors, and some strong underclassmen.

This group has some big shoes to fill both offensively and defensively, but they should be competitive.

Should be another great year for High School baseball in Tidewater. Kellam will once again be the power house in the Beach District. Had a chance to see them play this past fall and they are STACKED, they have a very good chance to go back to States if they can all stay healthly. Southeastern District- will have your normal cast of characters atop the board. GB,NR,WB,IR,HH,GF or OS. I think GB is still top of the board in SED. Both NR and WB lost some key players, but their younger players are ready to step and and perform. I feel like the last 3 teams will be back and forth all year with each other. They just don't have the pitching nor big time bats to make a real charge at the top 2 spots.
I would say Kellam and GB too!Originally Posted by redbird5:
