Bum, Jr. is entering his senior year in h.s. Man, how time flies! As I reflect on his journey this off season, one thing that really amazes me is the people I have met. I have watched players in California only to see them at college camp in Washington. One kid I've seen in four different places.

So the old adage is correct. Baseball is a small world. Be sure to respect the game and your opponent at all times.. and be careful what you say.. you never know when you'll meet up again!

When we remember we are all mad, the mysteries disappear and life stands explained. --Mark Twain

So true, Bum. Many times people have approached me or my husband to talk about our boys. We have not known who they are, and of course we are guarded - they seem to know a lot about our kids, kind of weird. But we have learned what you say is true, respect everyone around the game, you never know.
Of course I would add, respect those that deserve your respect.
Astonishingly small world.

My son got his college offer from a coach he knew from Orlando....while playing in Germany as the coach was managing the German Nat'l team and my son was on the UK team. He found out about the UK team through a hsbbweb Mom, and now our sons have been teammates.

His short season teammates, in the opposite corner of the country, included two players from his wood bat league in Atlanta, two he played against each season, and Prepster's lovely son! Emeraldvlly sent me a great photo ---- Aeden catching while a former AAU (12u) teammate hit for the Cubs' affiliate; they hadn't seen each other in almost 10 years. When he got to Instructs, yet another member of that 12u team was there.

I got to see him play in California, and watch his first pro hr go over the head of a guy who had played with him on his travel team in early hs.

Having played a lot of travel ball, his hs coaches and teammates always wondered why a few of the guys always knew players on every team they played. Your sons will keep seeing players they know as long as they play ball! Cool
