I am preparing my reading list for fall/winter.

I found this, but it only goes up to 2003.

I would also like suggestions from 2003-2008.
I know some of you have reccommended books in the past, but it might be nice to have them all in one place.

I'm in the middle of a Lou Gehrig bio, I read and shared Kahns "Head Game", if you enjoy bb history try "Play For A Kingdom" by Dan Dyja or "No Fun on Sunday" I can't remember the author, it's on Amazon though, this was one of the greatest baseball books I've ever read, it's about "town teams" in Iowa in the early 1900's, you'll read it in one sitting.
Have you ever gotten anything worthwhile out of those superfluous newspaper book reviews? All they try to do is show you how extensive their vocabulary is.

I just went to Amazon and bought "No Fun On Sunday" because jdfromfla said "this was one of the greatest baseball books I've ever read."

Works for me.

I'm anxious to read this book. I met a man from our church who was probably pushing 90 years old. He told me in his 20s he played on what you might call one of these town teams. They were sponsored by the local furniture store and they traveled to area towns. Today they are 20-30 minute rides but I'm sure it was an all day event back then.

Sounded like a great time.

Let me add:

"Senior Year" by Dan Shaughnessy
"Twice Around The Bases" by Kevin Kennedy
"My Bat Boy Days" by Steve Garvey

We've been told they changed to a different cover. Hoping that actually happened.

Also heard that the book might be included in nearly all school libraries. I guess McFarland Publishing specializes in academic books.

The book is actually mostly about us, but there are some interesting and somewhat controversial chapters written by the author, giving his opinion on a few youth baseball subjects.

Here's hoping the book doesn't get us in trouble.
I looked at my sons current reading and saw it was " Mind Gym An Athletes Guide To Inner Excellence".

Overview:
Combining well-researched psychological principles with inspirational stories, a guide to help amateur athletes take their game to the next level, overcome adversity, stay motivated, and follow their dreams.

I asked what he thought of it and he said it was an athletic "read" that can be applied throughout life.

.
Was reccomended by a parent of a minor league player...Poorly written...slow to get into...father son angle is weak and unnecessarily...but parent was right...

...an absolute MUST read for anyone Players/parents pondering/anticipating a stay in the minor leagues...puts it all out there honestly in pretty gritty detail...

"The single best baseball book" is:
The Glory of Their Times : The Story of Baseball Told By the Men Who Played It By Laurence Ritter
(1992)

As the cover promotes: "The Story of the Early Days of Baseball told by the Men Who Played It" and it is.

Another must have in the library is:
The Baseball Encyclopedia: The Complete and Definitive Record of Major League Baseball

If interested in listings of books
and movies on this great game, emme.

Regards
