Unwritten Rules
Never put the tying or go-ahead run on base. I think it depends on the number of outs, the hitter and the inning
Play for the tie at home, go for the victory on the road. I think this is true
Don't hit and run with an 0-2 count. I think this is true unless the hitter is trugling to get the bat off the shoulder
Don't play the infield in early in the game. Depends on the opposing team
Never make the first or third out at third. Not sure if I agree with the first out
Never steal when you're two or more runs down. I think this is true
Don't steal when you're well ahead. I think this is true
Don't steal third with two outs. I think this is true
Don't bunt for a hit when you need a sacrifice. Very true
Never throw behind the runner. What about the catcher throwing to 1st, 2nd or 3rd when the runner is well off the bag
Left and right fielders concede everything to center fielder. I think this is true
Never give up a home run on an 0-2 count. I think this is true
Never let the score influence the way you manage. Doesnt this contradict most of the other unwritten rules
Don't go against the percentages. Not always true
Take a strike when your club is behind in a ballgame. I dont get this one - if you get a good pitch swing
Leadoff hitter must be a base stealer. Designated hitter must be a power hitter. Hmmm - not sure about this one
Never give an intentional walk if first base is occupied. Why, if your up by 2 and the hitter has 3 HRs in the game - walk him
With runners in scoring position and first base open, walk the number eight hitter to get to the pitcher. How many outs?
In rundown situations, always run the runner back toward the base from which he came. I think this is true
If you play for one run, that's all you'll get. Hmmm
Don't bunt with a power hitter up. Have seen it done - suicide squeeze - worked great
Don't take the bat out of your best hitter's hands by sacrificing in front of him. Hmmm
Only use your bullpen stopper in late-inning situations. I think this is true
Don't use your stopper in a tie game - only when you're ahead. I dont agree 100%
Hit behind the runner at first. Depends on the hitter
If one of your players gets knocked down by a pitch, retaliate. I agree in the NL
Hit the ball where it's pitched. If you dont you will miss it (LOL)
A manager should remain detached from his players. HMMM
Never mention a no-hitter while it's in progress. I think this is true
With a right-hander on the mound, don't walk a right-handed hitter to pitch to a left-handed hitter. Depends on the hitter
To our military men, women and families - You are all awesome - that flag is yours and I thank you for the opportunity for giving me the honor of removing my cap prior to every baseball game I see.
