Just wondering what the best, worst and average times are for a power hitting 1B in the 60 and 1st to home. What's acceptable to coaches? I know it varies by level, just looking for ballpark info.

Also, saw at a camp that they started their 1st to home sprint with the players in the sitting position, facing away from the direction they were running. Is that normal? Never saw it before.

Thanks for all the info on this site.

You dont have to be fast in the 60 but it is important that you be able to field your posistion very well. Some big strong power hitters are not very fast but they are quick and athletic for their size. You need to be in the mid 7 range or below before it really starts to be a concern. The better you hit and the more power you can hit with the less of a concern your speed will be. But again you still have to have the agility and quickness to adequately field your posistion.
We were a pudgy 8th grader, turned into a pretty stout 6'2" 220 junior. Has been given good ratings on his footwork and fielding, but still a bit slow in running. High 4s, High 7s. But we're getting better and hitting better. Hit 430 last summer, probably much better this spring summer. Just concerned that we aren't fast enough to keep playing after high school. Not giving up hope yet, and working harder than ever....

The more you can hit the less you need to do in the other areas. Most players can improve their running times to get in the mid 7s, and around 4.6/4.7 H-1. The faster you become, no matter what speed you possess… the more valuable you become. That said, there are mid 7 guys playing in the Big Leagues because they can hit and hit with power.

Which camp was it that timed Home-1st that way? No, it is not normal at all.
