I had a conversation with the high school coach about a web site that keeps track of stats for high school teams, I think nationwide. The coach has to email info to this site. But he feels that stats are a team thing and he isnt interested. Other teams in the league do it, mainly the successful ones. This coach is relatively new....3rd year. I thought I might offer my services if he is too busy or is intimidated by web stuff. The school uses this site for football & basketball..those coaches think it is beneficial. At one of the summer games, I talked to a scout from one of the local universities, and he mentioned he uses that site for evaluation purposes...to see if it would be worth his time to go out and see the player. the site is maxpreps....any thoughts? The AD had heard of it and showed interest...but....

I do that for our High School. The site we use is MaxPreps.com. Some coaches don't do it, and most do. Our coach also uses it for scouting purposes, to see who is doing good etc, on teams we are scheduled to play in the future. I do know that the LA Times uses MaxPreps to load their stats for the paper during baseball season. Don't know about Nationwide, but I am sure they do. All coaches prior to the start of the season were sent a copy of the procedures, and once signed up were given a user name/password. But like I said, alot of coaches can't be bothered. As far as scouts or college recruiters are concerned, I think they could care less about stats. We have never had one ask for our sons stats, so I don't think they care. take care and good luck.
Problem with stats are the people who keep the score.

In some areas, the kid that doesn't play keeps the stats and is "generous" to his buddies...you know the story.

In other areas, the coach keeps the stats and reviews them each inning. We had a local team last year with most of their starters hitting over .400. Go watch them play. Yes, they have a couple of players, but not 9 kids that should be at .400 plus.

What matters is how hard you hit the ball; how well you run; how well you throw; how fast you are; and, "have you been a good boy?"
