What do you guys use for a game ball? Found out yesterday that the Illinois High School Assocation has agreed to a new contract for the "official ball" in many of their sports. Previously, Wilson has been the choice of the IHSA, but starting in 2009-2010 Baden balls will be used in the IHSA state series in all sports but tennis and golf.

Has anybody ever used a Baden baseball?

I have never heard of a Baden baseball but I have in basketball. Hopefully it will be a good product if everyone has to use it.

In Kentucky you can use whatever ball you want during the regular season but the postseason has to be played with Rawlings. I either got the R100 or R200 each year.

Speaking of balls - I always got practice balls from Collegiate Pacific called Mark I. They are game quality balls for around $25 a dozen. In fact we used them sometimes for JV and Freshman games if we were running short of Rawlings. When I become a head coach again I am definately going back to them.
Baden, like most manufacturers, have baseballs in the whole price/quality spectrum........from Kids balls all the way to Pro specs....

Like most you get what you pay for.....I know the college balls are very good and comparable to the other major manufacturers .....The make balls for LL, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, PONY ect.....

I dont have any experience with their all weather ball.......
Just a few quick questions, has anyone ever enforced the ball rule in any of your games...???

In Pa, the Wilson A1010PRO-RS SST is the official ball, however they also state that Member schools are reminded that the adoptions are for use during PIAA participating Districts and PIAA Inter-District (state) Championship play only. Schools are not required to use these balls during their regular season contests....

NFHS rules say that we are to use only baseballs with the NFHS authenticating mark.....

Now that being said, If I show up and we have 2 teams and 3 baseballs, we are going to play......I have also umpired in some fairly rural schools where I had to go my car and supply 2 new baseballs to get the game in.......noone had remembered to bring any......they were PONY league balls.....

I am not holding a game up over marks or branding on the baseballs...

PIAA, I've never seen an umpire or official enforce that a specific ball be used. Simple-- it's only required during the state series. BUT, why would a school necessarily choose to use a different ball than what they are required to use in the postseason? Obviously, part of it could be budget not allowing for all new stuff.

This probably is not near as big of a concern with baseball or softball as it is for football or basketball. With baseball, many of them only last 2-3 games if that. In basketball, you could use the same game ball for years. And the basketballs for practice are going to last 2-3 years as well.

Anybody who went out and bought a bunch of new basketballs, volleyballs, s****r balls, or footballs this year in Illinois can not be happy with the new contract.

Oh, and here's a good one-- Baden is going to give each member school a ball for each sport Wink Gonna do baseball a lot of good Smile
little humor.

Years ago we had a coaches meeting and the league commissioner had a representative from a company that made baseballs. He asked us if we had any problems with the ball we currently were using. I raised my hand and said yes. He asked what it was I replied we cant hit field or throw the ones we were using Smile Smile You have to have a little fun

Yes.

We are supposed to use a raised seam ball (Rawlings R200) and sometimes coaches try to substitute different (I guess cheaper) balls.

I don't like it when people do, and will point it out to the umps, because the feel of the seams and the hide can be quite different.
