It depends on the time of the game, base runner's speed, on deck guy, etc. There are so many variables I don't think you can have hard and fast rules. You can implement a contact sign w/third base coach (if you don't coach third yourself) where the runner leaves on down angle. I have seen this play be very effective in high school and also the collegiate level. You still have to field the ground ball and make a quality throw to the plate and apply a tag. Again, this depends on the speed of the runner and the other variables. You have to coach on instinct and hope that it translates to the players playing with instinct
