Just curious, if it happens at all schools in the metroplex or just at the school my son attends. Baseball tryouts were two weeks ago, basketball is still a week from being done and the basketball coaches have prohibited any basketball/baseball players to participate in any of the aspects associated with baseball(including throwing). Basketball team has been eliminated from any playoff action for the last month and all baseball players from freshman through seniors are sitting around scratching their kneesacks anticipating the end of the basketball season. WHY-need other reason than a possible injury that could effect basketball when the season is already over....

Commitment.

Finish what you start. I am in a great situation that our basketball coach allows the JV kids to come out after basketball practice and hit with us, but I would not think ill of him if he did not.

Footballers (at least every place I have been) do not go to basketball until football is over. We would love to have all of the basketball kids out.

Good luck.
This was common practice when I was high school by the basketball coaches.

I played basketball at Arl. Martin and had the pleasure of playing with Ben Grieve. He was a solid basketball player while at Martin. At that time, Martin went deep into the playoffs every year in basketball and actually lost the semifinal game in 1994 to Plano East to get to State (DeJuan Baker missed the last second shot to win). The basketball team had 2 starters and 1 bench player that were starters on the baseball team. Those 3 guys wouldn't join the baseball team until early-to-mid March every year. The previous year(1993), Martin baseball won state when Grieve was junior. The following year(1994), Martin baseball was ranked #1 in the country even though it was missing 3 of its best players for half the season. None of the 3 players every played a full season of baseball while in HS.

However, I do know that those 3 guys would practice baseball together privately after basketball practice was over so they could transition to baseball once basketball was over.
I have a senior that made Varsity Basketball team his Sophomore year. Not a star player but good and left it all on the court. He decided to play select baseball the summer between Junior and Senior year and couldn't play summer basketball. Coach told him not to bother trying out for basketball his senior year if he didn't play the summer leagues. He also got chewed out for 15 minutes in the locker room for playing catch with a friend during basketball season. It has payed off for the basketball coach the team is first in district but sure was hard on my son who loved the game.
