So I ordered for son, and received a new BBCOR Marucci Black bat, cost around $300. Upon opening the package a little card fell out indicating the bat was made in China. I, probably naively, wondered "how could this be"? A $300 bat and it's necessary to ship the manufacturing overseas to get that manufacturing cost? A $100 bat maybe, but a premium priced bat?

I went back to the web site I ordered it from, no indication where the bat was made. I checked various catalogs, no indication where the bat was made....or other bats for that matter. Found very few that say "Made in USA" so I guess that means that if it deosn't say anything then assume "off shore" manufacturing. Its truly hard to find out.

It seems to me that a company could do quite well with profit margins mass producing bats that retail at $300 a POP right here in the States. Heck, I'd
probably even pay a 10% surplus if necessary to give a ball playing or coaching fellow a nice manufacturing job.

If I could do it over again I think I'd do more research.

What do you guys think?

I am so sick of everything "China". They are laughing at us, and I am not kidding. Talk to people who do business in China.

It is downright scary that they produce a vast majority of our vitamins, pain relievers, etc... Their dog food has poisoned our pets, some of their toothpaste has shown to be hazardous to one's health, their produced toys contain lead and they are mass producers of counterfeit goods. Yet, we take it all in. WTH?

They have raised tariffs on out automobiles recently yet our government does nothing. I guess they are afraid China won't keep loaning us money if we retaliate in any way. Ridiculous. Weak leadership!!

It is up to us to send the message that we don't want thier poison and ****. Fortunately, companies like Ford Motor Co are bringing jobs back to the U.S. and we'll all be better for it. Need more companies to do the same and we need to support them when they do!

End rant.

I agree with your sentiment about China. But if you think ANY politician, Republican or Democrat, in office or campaigning, is going to do anything about the problem you are sadly mistaken. Too many major campaign contributors making too much money exporting jobs. I want to throw up every time I hear a politician advocating "free trade."

I agree that it is up to the PEOPLE to say enough by buying American made goods. But it's not going to happen anytime soon. Everyone's too used to buying $8 polos and $10 fleece's at Old Navy, $10 footballs and basketballs at Wal-Mart, and cheap electronics at Best Buy.

What this country needs is a new brand of patriotism, a Movement if you will, that puts country first when it comes to buying consumer goods.

I'm not absolving the politicians, but they are pretty much doing what the public wants them to do. We have met the enemy and he is us.

I would think two things here:

1. For $300, a US Company could make a pretty good BBCOR at a reasonable profit.

2. If we require US manufacturers to pay a minimum wage, provide health care, dental care, safety training and equipment, a safe work environment, unemployment insurance....etc then we probably should require this of off shore manufacturers as well or charge an import tariff that equals our requirements to treat our workers fairly and safely. The working conditions and benefits have to be comparable to US workers else were encourage what we've deemed to be "worker abuse".

The discussion should not be about lowering our standards but about raising the standards elsewhere.

Still, I'm disappointed I can't find a Made in USA BBCOR bat

Harv, Agree with you, would like a US made BBCOR bat as well, but doubt many US employees in the industry are working for minimum wage. You also missed the huge product liability costs. As an example, recently, a local family & ambulance chaser received a $5 million award for a HS freshman's summer ball injury back in 2004. It took quite a few years but the climate was ripe. Who knows how many ambulancechasers the biggees (H & B, Easton, Wilson) have had to deal with?

Examining the manufacturing process, not sure to what extent H & B was manufacturing alloy bats in CA up to a few years ago. I'd bet they were merely assembling & finishing foreign extruded & molded parts. As a small business owner, there is no way I'd want anything to do with the CA business climate.

Anderson Bat Company located in Southern California, makes the "Nanotek BBCOR". They are known for making probably the hottest aluminum bat ever used in Little league the "Techzilla". Made right here in Orange County.

I have not heard about the new Nanotek BBCOR, but my son has the "Ignite" and it seems to have a lot of pop. The Nanotek is suppse to be a step up fromn the ignite. The only issue with all the Anderson bats is their tendency to dent.
Very gratifying to hear of the Anderson Nanotek....Made in USA! And its the same price as the Marucci!

Wish I had known what I know now before Frown of course that's true about a lot of things...LOL

I've recorded thie web site and will certainly give her a try once the Marucci breaks.

I have a GE refrigerator, expensive side by side, about 5 years old. I've had to replace the evaporator circ fan motor three times. The OEM part says "GE Made in China"
My son bought an Anderson Ignite last July, got a cheap deal on it, & used it through the Fall. In Nov, with some saved up money, he bought a Cat 5, & seems to like it more. I'd like to see him in another Anderson, mainly because a bunch of his teammates are always borrowing the Marucci Smile

Hate to hear of your experience Harv, we're going to be in the market for a bigger fridge soon. Replacing major appliance in just a few years is getting out of hand.

Will pass this on, for those that haven't been "blessed" by the experience. Nearly all of the new HE washers are overpriced junk. They just don't last. My parents are on their 3rd pair of relatively high end HE washers & dryers in the last 6 1/2 years. As retirees, they don't wash near the amount of clothes my family does. My wife & I bought an $800+ Maytag Brazos, 4 years ago, & it started leaking right after the extended warranty expired. Not much on the market is any better. After some searching I found a barely used high capacity commercial grade washer for $400. Our utility room may not have a matching pair of appliances & be up to some folk's aesthetic standards. Could also care less how much more efficient the HE was with water, our clothes are now much cleaner, don't have to wash them twice. Research, research, & do more research if in the market.

If a bat manufacturer can make $250 on a $300 bat made in China, or $50 on a $300 bat made here, where do think they are going to make bats? How can this country compete with $25/week salaries in China, Indonesia or wherever. Union or non union makes no difference with that competition.

It's happened with just about every product we buy. Drive around Philly in the old neighborhoods and you see block after block of closed manufacturing buildings. First they moved down south, then they moved overseas. I don't think any of them are moving back state side anytime soon.

I am involved with a baseball company and our baseballs are, like all the major brands, made in China. They are in fact made by the same company and in the same facility as the aforementioned major brands. We have considered making our baseballs in the USA but quite frankly it is cost prohibitive. I am sure baseballs would be $100/doz.if made here. It is unfortunate but reality I guess. Speaking of that I have a big shipment coming in shortly so let me know and I will fill you in on details, best ball at the best prices you will ever find.
