Son at bat, hits the ball for single. Standing at 1st, home plate umpire calls him out. The umpire said his front foot was out of the batters box when he made contact. I was snapping some photos at that at bat. In my images it shows at contact his front foot toes were just out of the batters box. Is he out for just the toes? An umpire that happens to be a dad of a player on the team and was in the stands at that game said the entire foot had to be out of the box to be called out. Never seen this before.

EHeroes is correct.

The entire foot has to be out of the BOX. If part of the batters foot is touching the chalk then it is a legal at bat.

6.06 A batter is out for illegal action when_ (a) He hits a ball with one or both feet on the ground entirely outside the batter's box. If a batter hits a ball fair or foul while out of the batter's box, he shall be called out.

In NFHS, also dont forget that if the batter contacts the ball while a foot is touching home plate, he is out regardless of the foot's position relative to the box. This is not true in OBR.

Well, in the interest of full disclosure, maybe (just MAYBE) I'm not that Emanski. Ok, ok, I'm not an Emanski at all.
