From what I have heard, read and observed whoever wins the Battlefield District will have to beat the pitchers mentioned - Wheeler and Moore...
Both of these young men are fine pitchers, with good velocity and location. Each posses a nasty breaking pitch AND Wheeler being a lefty makes him that much more difficult.. Both are adept at keeping hitters off balance...
15 strikouts in 5 2/3 by Moore is stout although I will admit I don't know much about Freedom except that they are a newer school... Somehow Freedom scored 5 runs in 1 1/3 innings(?).. That might say something about Chancelor without Moore on the hill... They lost a lot of starters to graduation last year...
Spotsylvania has a strong baseball tradition and will be tough with Wheeler on the mound.. But like Chancelor they lost some key players to graduation last year...
I've heard that Caroline has a hard thrower in Atkins, or Atkinson?...
Courtland and King George always compete. Both could do well this year....
Riverbend use to be the younger team, but the younger boys are now 3 year experienced varsity players. Who know's what they might be capable of?...
Any of these teams could win the Battlefield District this year, it should be great fun to watch it unfold...
The Commonwealth District weill be a good race as well... There are some, solid, evenly matched teams in the Commonwealth...
Matt Johns from North Stafford hit a walk off Grand Slam last night to win the game for NS over Notre Dame Academy.... Exciting stuff already!
