There are many laminated and composite wood bats that are BBCOR certified. I assume that’s what you mean by BBCOR wood certified. Bats made from one solid piece of wood are exempt from the BBCOR rule. I believe that manufacturers submit their bats to the Sports Science Laboratory at Washington State University for BBCOR certification. I have read that this process is pretty expensive.
I have to disagree with your generalization that a regular wood bat has more pop than a metal BBCOR. There are just too many variables. From my experience, if you put the best from both categories on a machine, the metal bat would hit the ball farther than the solid wood bat. However, I have seen a good maple bat outhit an inferior aluminum bat. And when it comes to composite, I’ve never seen a solid wood bat come close to the high-end Easton composites.
