ACDad,
Welcome!!!! As Chill indicated my son did indeed graduate from BC High in 2003...I also live about 10 minutes from Xaverian...I did much research back then including a discussion with the Principal of CM with whom I graduated from HS with...we, as a family, opted for BC High for numerous reasons but I will be honest sports was not one of them...academics, alumni involvement and scholarships available to grads was influential...BC High has a huge alumni base who give much money back to the school...and as "brothers" the networking advantage is phenominal...BB wise there are many, many former grads in the Minor League system...the class of 2001 has Conroy, Delaney, Morgan, Locke all drafted...2002 has Carreri with the Dbacks...several boys are playing at the college level...this year Hassan is going to Duke, Curley is going Navy and Capless is going to Georgetown..all recruited for BB...there is a strong connection to BC as Peter Hughes is a BC High grad...he is at many games and is also instrumental in assisting in referring boys to other college programs...Mr Walsh is a tough taskmaster but my son adores him and they have maintained a nice relationship since his graduation...when my sons hitting was askew he went back to Mr Walsh and he corrected the flaw...be advised Freshman year there were 76 who tried out...following year 96 and then 125...the competition is tough and tryouts are very stressful but I do believe if asked my son would say he had a marvelous time there...Mr Lambert at Xaverian has a vastly different style of coaching...I was always impressed by him...the last player drafted was Rosen in 2001...they do have a few playing at the college level but not as many as BC High...large numbers at tryouts as well...my suggestion...check out where grads go on to college from each school...SAT results...scholarship money available...where BB players are attending... academic money given at the collegiate level to grads... if I can assist any further please do not hesitate to ask...best of luck to you and your son
Catchermom03,
Thank you so much for the breadth and depth of your post. My wife and I want to steer my son in the right direction, and your post gives us much to think about. We went to the Xaverian Reception last night. BCHigh is holding a reception Sunday. Deposit checks are due soon thereafter, so we are grateful for your input.
Thanks,
ACDad
My son is a senior at BC High this year and I can tell you those High School years are going to go by too fast. About baseball either school is tremendous. The competition in the Catholic Conference is the best in the state. As for the schools I can only speak about BC. My son went there for baseball but he has gotten much more from the school itself. I feel confident my son is well prepared for college athletically and academically. good luck with your decision
