RECAP:
Freshman Taylor Toppings base-hit in the bottom of the eight scored the only run of the game.
(Another James Tabora Tidewater Driller making his presence felt in the Beach District).
Pitching and defense was the flavor of the day for this game; on both sides.
Cameron Butler, Landstown, struggled in the first finding his curve-ball, but his 84-86 fastball kept the Lions hitters at bay.
Tallwoods pitcher averaging 82-84, was very effective due to late-movement and a complimentary curve-ball, while Landstown hitters chose to rest their bats today (on their shoulders).
Myself, I am a pitching and defense wins championships kinda guy, I appreciatted this game from the perspective that overall this was Landstowns best effort defensively; not by merely catching and throwing, but execution with players being in the right spots was encouraging.
Landstown never got that big hit, but that can be contributed to Tallwoods defensive play of the game.
With 2 outs and runners on first and second, the Eagles SS and #2 hitter Kyle Lawhorn, hit a slice to right that began to fade to the line; Tallwoods right-fielder laid-out to make the catch. This play prevented at least 1 run and with a speedy runner on first (Mike Fudenewicz; Joe forgive my spelling and little help with the pronounciation)
We may have plated two and on this day that may have been enough.
