Ocean Lakes Schedule:
All games played at OLHS

Monday April 18, 3:00 PM vs Lake Braddock Home*

Tuesday April 19, 10:00 AM vs Granby Home*

Tuesday April 19, 1:00 PM vs Gates-Chili (NY) Home*

Wednesday April 20, 3:00 PM vs TBA Home*

I'd say OL may try to play the other NOVA team or Hanover from Richmond... Looks like a good week though.
FC vs. Lake Taylor 2pm Monday
FC vs. Lake Braddock 10am Tuesday
FC vs. Hayfield 3pm Tuesday
FC vs. TBD 3pm Wednesday

All the games are at First Colonial's great newly renovated stadium (if you haven't seen the renovations....they are first class).

Lake Braddock and Hayfield are really highly rated teams from NOVA. Lake Taylor has started strong in the Eastern. Should be a fun week of baseball.

VB... Any way you can post pics or shoot me a link to some of the new stadium? I'd love to see since I'm never in town. They always had a great field grass and playing condition wise, but I could never get over the square lot fencing haha.

I know everyone is looking forward for some good match ups this spring break, but lets remember, these games mean nothing so I suspect coaches will use these games to get some playing time for youngsters and give the pitching staff a break and develop some guys who'll pitch in the next few years, I think FC will use as many as 4 sophomores on the mound this week. Good luck to everyone, play hard and have fun.
FC dropped 2 games, both were hard fault, lost 6 to 5 to Lake Braddock, 1 of Fc's top pitchers didn't have his best stuff, I think he hit 7 batters in the 1st game, he's never done that, EVER, lost 3 to 1 to Heyfield, Justin Keith from FC thru 6 good innings, didn't get any timely hits, both teams from NOVA were very sound, still good baseball, why is it alwyas windy at FC,?lol, brutal wind
Lake Braddock - 6
First Colonial - 5

WP - Thomas Rogers
LP - Michael Rienerth

Rogers pitched well holding FC to 6 hits and then his defense let him down in the 7th. Kinne came in for the final 2 outs. FC had it's chances and had a runner on 2nd when LB got the last out.

Rienerth had 2 hits and an RBI. Had a rough outing pitching but hung in for 4 1/3 without surrendering too much.

Keith and Orzell finished the game clean.

Hayfield - 3
First Colonial - 1

WP - #34 (name?)
LP - Justin Keith

Hayfield's pitcher was strong scattering 5 hits and giving up just 1 unearned run.
Justin Keith matched Hayfield for 5 innings, then the defense made a couple errors and Hayfield went up 3-1 after 6.
Jeff Orzell finished the game for FC.

A good game by two good teams.

The best thing about the Beach Blast is that you get to see players from other districts that you either read or hear about, well today, FC had the chance to see UNC bound SS Matt Campbell from Hickory, and he didn't dissapoint. Campell hit 2 balls into a gale force wind for HomeRuns. 4 games were played at Fc this week and no one came close to a HR til Campbell today. If Campbell keeps this up, he'll by pass UNC and be drafted very high, he's that good. On a side note, How did the Big Blue that this local player get away??
Hey Weasel,

I can not guess why a kid would pick an ACC school over a CAA school. That is a shock to me!

So much for your theory of seeing a lot of other underclassmen pitching in the blast. I do agree, spring break is a great time to give other players who have committed to a program a chance to play. It appears that many coaches at the beach didn't see it that way. Great to see all of these other teams come into the beach and show them such good competition.

You all had a great few days of weather and a breeze. Have a great rest of the season!!
thanks Redbird, not sure how the process works, cause I know of a few 2012 kids that can make an impact now for the Big Blue, lol, lets see, Palimino team won World Seris, American Legion team went to World Series, so there must be some talent here?????Yeah, Acc vs Caa, true, but did anyone try?? from what I heard, Talent is awful here. I'm just glad I had the chance to see a great Talent today in Matt Campbell, the SED is loaded

No worries. It's just nice to see our "little" AA team hanging in there with the big boys.

Little AA school... really? with 2,500 kids enrolled (2007 data)? That's more than most of the AAA schools here in the Southeastern District and possibly the Beach District.

JF has an enrollment of 1,301 for the 2010-2011 school year according to the Virginia Department of Education. We wouldn't be able to fit 2,500 kids in the building!
Weasel,
Coach Stubbe has always done a good job with letting guys play during spring break. You did post that your 3 top guys were all starting pitchers in the games. Not all stayed on the bump for the whole game, but that didn't happen everywhere.
By the way, I have no idea who ODU talks to and who they don't. Just making a comment that I would probably go to an ACC school instead of a CAA school. Guess if anyone wants to know who contacts individual players and when they go for visits etc. they should contact Redbird. He seems to have most of the answers! Good for you Redbird! Many Virginia Schools scouted this week and saw a lot of talent coming into the beach area this week from the northern areas. Hope ODU grabs a couple of those kids.
Thanks to all the coaches who organized the beach blast. It appears to have gone off without a hitch. It is really great for the coaches to be able to stay in one area and see players from all over.
The second half of the season should be great. Every team has had lots of opportunity to improve.
Good Luck to all of the teams!
