This year the beach blast tournament is hosted by 9 beach high schools. In lieu of entry fees, participating schools were asked to make donations to a fund supporting Kellam HS coach St. Clair Jones. We are not charging admission at the gate each day, but instead are asking for donations again to assist coach Jones. The tournament schedule (shown by host site) is available online at www.olbaseball.com/BeachBlastSchedule.html. We appreciate the support of the local baseball community for this event in an effort to raise funds for coach Jones.
4PM Game

Landstown defeats Cape Henry in a 5 inning game.

Cape Henry put two runs on the board in the top of the first.
With 2 out and two on base; Colton Langejans would come in and allow only two-hits through 4 and 1/3 innings.

Landstown scored more than enough to end the game in five.

7PM Game

Columbia (NY) 9 Landstown 5

Columbia scouting report: Their big pitcher should be out of the way for the rest of the tourney; he was topping at 88 with a very tight curve. Several college scouts in presence to watch him.

Landstown batted a few balls, but not enough.
Cameron Butler hit the ball hard all night with a triple and single.

Landstown played it's poorest defense of the year; with the exception of CF Mike Feduniewicz who made two spectacular plays (diving/reaching up taking away a gap hit on the run).

It was cold last night and a bat was shattered.

Columbia was solid on defense and well disciplined at the plate. Alot of left-handed hitters. A deep bench with around 25 players.

Freshmen Michael Curry (7 K's through 4 1/3rd innings), Jeremy Sandifer and a recent JV call up pitched for the Eagles.

Edit: The JV call up was (FR)Chris Schible (chksp); a little lefty. He pitched a 1-2-3 7th.

Lawman,

After seeing the score of the cape henry game, I frowned. The way I was taught is that you don't beat a team that bad; it's disrespectful. Now did Mungin pull out his starters and put in his secondary and they performed well or what?
Either way, Congratulations to the Eagles on another win and thier new ranking of 5th in South Hampton Roads.

Yes he did, actually the three replacement players
batted twice in one inning collecting four hits between them with 2B Kevin Hume going 2-2 in the inning on some hard-hit balls; one a double.

The problem was CH pitching where they couldn't get the ball over the plate and when they did; well.

Landstown took a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the first without a hit. The CH pitchers had a dozen plus BB's.

The scoreboard was turned off when the score started to run up there.

I caught that this morning, a pleasant surprise.
I can only assume that's the highest ranking Landstown has held in baseball.

It's still a long season ahead with some tuff games throughout.

It sounds like Kellam is crushing the baseball as good as anyone right now.
Lawman,

I do think it is the highest ranking ever; along with the first. LHS hasn't ever been ranked. I believe the closest they have ever come was 3 seasons ago with first team all beach selection Ryan Crain going 9-1. I believe the team finished 12-8 on the season, and with the final rankings coming out at the end of the season, were hoping to be ranked but just missed it. Either way, they had a great year that year, finishing 5th in the beach.

I definitely agree it is very early. Although they are off to a great start, there's a long season ahead of them with some great opponents.

Also Congratulations to Salem on achieving the 10th spot rounding out South Hampton Roads top 10. Despite thier record, I believe they are a good team and will show it later on this season.

Great Job to both. (And also Kellam at 4th in the SH rankings). Good luck to all of the teams during thier spring break.

I remember that season and I was following Ryan's and Landstown season with vested interest.

As you know with my oldest having attended Salem and playing for Coach Zell, as a family we were deciding if we wanted to move into Salem school zone so Kyle could play there. Kyle decided to stay with Landstown for various reasons.

Ryan's older brother (Tyler) played with my eldest on the 1998 AAU 13U National Championship team coached by Paul Zigrang (son Zach/Kempsville/Longwood) and the late Doug Dorival Sr; in Riverside CA. Tyler had a very nice swing and could hit, but he was somewhat vertically challenged and as strong as that team was his playing time was very limited.

Ryan and Kyle ran around together when were out there collecting team pins and doing whatever.

Ryan came to the last game of the fall season last year and now he looks all of 6'3".

Wonderful family.

Thats great to hear. Ryan is a great kid with a great personality. Not to mention a very bright young man. He finished top ten in his class with a 4.2 i believe. Last time i spoke with him he was playing club baseball at U.V.A and said he loves it. I do agree, Ryans whole family is great and they loved to help out with the team when Ryan was an Eagle.

Hope Phils doing good in Florida. Although I'm unable to make it to the games now, I keep track with LHS in the paper. Looking forward to seeing how they end up doing in the Beach Blast Tourney. Should be some great games when the teams head back for beach action after the break as well!

The last game didn't turn out so well for the Eagles

Mills Godwin 7 Landstown 5

Godwin hit Kyle Lawhorn hard in the first two innings; plateing 6 runs. His pitches were elevated (somewhat forced too and that's all I will say about that) and when he made quality pitches the Godwin batters would do a good job of fouling them off. There were a couple dying quails in there, but the Godwin top 6 were solid at the plate. CF #3 (Lane; last name I believe/brother was the rightfielder) went 4-4.

Cameron Butler did a good job coming in the 2nd pitching 5 and 1/3rd allowing only the 1 run in the top of the 7th. He had a good tight curve working today and was able to get the calls at the knee for strikes; that's all I'm going to say about that.

Landstown had their chance in the bottom of the 6th loading the bases scoring 3 runs, but the bases were left loaded when the third out was made and the score at 6-5 in favor of Mills Godwin.

Time to prepare for what looks to be a wild Beach District season.
