First Colonial 3 Salem 0
Just a good old fashion ball game. Jon Spears had the right stuff out there and really had FC chasing bad pitches and Bulman had his stuff going also and those guys had a 0-0 ball game going in the bottom of the 6th. Mueller who had not had a good bat against Spears all day lead the 6th off with a double, just fair down the 1st base line. Coach Zell made the move and brought in Buffington. He walked Sykes on 4 pitches and Cruit hit a ball at the 3rd baseman that took an FC hop over his head. The ball took another FC bounce past the left fielder and 2 runs scored with Nick ending up at 3rd. 1 out later Kevin Hill brought Nick home with FC's 3rd run with a line shot triple over the right fielders head. Both team played great defense. Salem RF Nick Minter ran a ball down and made a great sliding catch in the right field foul area where everyone enters the gate to the game, a long way to get to that ball. Salem had a threat in the top of 6th, with the bases loaded an no outs, Coach Wilson brought in Bill Mueller and with the infield in he got the batter to hit a high chopper to SS Frank Berry who gunned a shot home and Cruit finished the double play with a throw to first and in an early inning Berry went deep to the 3rd base side of SS hole to throw out the batter at first. FC turned their 10th, 11th and 12th DP of the year. Spears pitched great for Salem. Soph Gary Bulman threw another great game without the victory. Another game that could have gone either way.
