Salem picked up thier first beach district win with Kyle Mediara on the mound.Kyle helped his own cause with a few base hits. Dan brion Came in for the last couple of innings to get the sundevils out of a bases loaded no outs situation. (very impressive pitching performance from this freshman)

David Ortega Played numerous positons today. From outfield to infield back to the outfield. Ortega also had a great day at the plate, he went 3-4 with a couple of rbi.

Congrats to Robby Newman on his first Homerun of the season for the sundevils. (another impressive Freshman to watch out for)

Kellam @ PA - this was really a pitcher's duel between Sean Ray and Daniel Hudson, both kids going the whole way. PA comes out on top in this one 2-1. Hudson had a one hitter and Ray scattered 5 or 6.

Each teams runs didn't come until the sixth when things got a little tense. Kellam scored it's run on an error and Hudson led off the sixth for PA with a double and then scored from third on a swinging bunt that Donnie Corsner beat out. The winning run scored on Beemer Weems' single to right center.

Kellam got their leadoff man on in the top of the seventh and moved him to second. Weems then makes the play of the game by going deep into the six hole and throwing the tying run out at the plate when Coach Jones sent the runner. Real good, well played early season game.
Kempsville lost to Cox. When you think the starting 9/10 players finally started to gel and basically win 3 in a row, major changes in line up did not pay off for the coaching staff.
Unfortuantly, Kempsville #1 pitcher did not start and stuggled in relief after comming in being 5 runs down.
Hitters stuggled against Cox's pitching (kid had a good change-up on third stike) after postng 10-15 hits last game.
Infielder turned outfielder (LF) made two great throws (one to 3rd to get the out and one perfect throw to home that was mistakenly cut off by the 3rd baseman??).
Although Matt Little struggled at SS, he went 2-4, with 1 double RBI, DH Bill Henson added a double to drive in a run for Kempsville.
Once the Chief's hitters settle back down, the chiefs should give beach teams a run for their money.

Cox 11 Kempsville 2
Cox 11 Kempsville 2, Whoa!
I feel for those Kempsville players, even though they have a young team they were starting to come on strong. After a lot of hard work and dedication to be shuffled around like that. Maybe things will get back to normal and the players can focus on the game.
Kempsville has the talent, although young (only 2 seniors) and should be a force in the beach district next year. Don't count em out yet, they may surprise some of district leaders down the stretch.
Good luck Kempsville.
