"What's happening to Cox?" you ask.

First...let me explain to those who may jump on this response...I am one of Cox's biggest, most heartfelt, and vocal baseball fans. I bleed Falcon Green evry time they take the field and my pride in their accomplishments is unbounded. And when my son graduates at the end of this year I will still be one of their most loyal fans.

But today I must be their harshest critic(constructively I hope). My observations are this:

The middle infield has struggled at best.
Left field has been an adventure most of the season.
Relief pitching has been shaky in close game situations.
Clutch hitting in close game situations has been non-existent since
the first game of the season.
Intelligent base running - getting better but still a ways to go.
Over managed and under coached.(my opinion only). Guess that's why I'm
not the coach. Smile
Over rated in preseason? Maybe. I don't think so. Underachieving? YES!

Guys...your season is slipping away faster than you may realize. Time to step up and make things happen. You have what it takes. Work hard, have fun with it, and most of all...do it for you.

GO FALCONS!!! clap
"Who pitched for Kellam”?

Augone pitched 4 plus innings giving up 4 runs in the first inning. He gave up another 2 runs in the 3rd and 2 more runs in the 4th or 5th. OL had scoring opportunity’s every inning but Kellam got some big breaks. Every ball that OL hit was hard, applaude crazy to wait until down 8-1 before you make a change. All we heard about was how much pitching Kellam had. If you don’t use it than it doesn’t do you any good to have it!!! Why wait to the last inning to pitch the Ray kid? A little disappointed in the Coaching decisions that are being made. That’s why these guys make the BIG bucks… Smile
Baseball parent,

Regarding Kellam....there are many considerations in making pitching decisions. It is pretty easy to sit in the bleachers and second guess the coach. I have known St. Clair since he was a kid and he knows as much baseball as any coach in the state. What makes you an expert? The decision is pretty clear in hindsight, huh?

I wish coaches could come to your work and point out all the errors you make.
Baseball Parent,
Errors are not caused by the coach. I'd put money on it they are 1 or 2 in the district. That's inexcusable. Fire in the belly comes from within. Can't blame that on the coach. Players need to be held accountable. Look at FC last year. Man per man they had the best team in the district, maybe the state and did not go anywhere. Do you hold the coach accountable? The players did not produce when they needed to.
No excuses... Cox Players needs to fight if they want to move to the next level! Hopefully their mature enough to move on well'll see some leadership on the field.
Redbird ease up I never said anything about St. Clair not knowing baseball. What I said was you have a pitcher that’s has played for you for 4 years and as a coach you should be able to tell if he has his stuff for that game. My point is that I felt he should have made the change sooner. You can’t tell me that you have never questioned a coach’s decision or had one of your decisions questioned after in a game by either someone else or better yet yourself. My son has played with a lot of the kids on Kellams team so I know what they had on the bench. Loosing one game is not the end of the season!!!!!!!

Then trust that he made the best decision for his team. Again, there are many factors that play into leaving a P in or yanking him.

Ease up? I'm not upset. Just getting tired of all the arm chair QBs around. Give some of these coaches your work address and let them criticize you for things you do/don't do.
I know some of the Cox fans, parents and players are getting a little anxious. They thought this would be their year to be at the top of the heap. After all, they have lost 3 games and most recently to Landstown, a team who lost their first 7 district games. Maybe the Cox team has underachieved up to this point in the season, but so had Landstown. Landstown has been able to turn their season around pretty quickly. Not that they are at the top, but they are playing at the level that they should be able to. Perhaps the boys at Cox can turn it around and realize that-1. they are still in a position to finish at the top (the tournament is the most important thing) and 2. they have it within their own power to do it as a team.

Lets try to keep it positive, sometimes it takes a while for a team to gel.

Landstown has picked it up a couple of notches and and are playing great baseball. I trully hope they keep it up

But I have to diagree with you. Actually the regular season is much more important than the tournament for Cox and the rest of the top teams. The regular season district champion gets an automatic bid to the regionals as the # 1 seed. All the other teams are playing for seedings which is very important. Without a doubt the regular season is much more important than the district tournament for the top teams.
First Colonial 5 Tallwood 1

Sorry I had computer problems last night.

Tight game until the 4th. Tied at 1-1 Jr Austin Wright had a bases loaded 2 run single to give FC a 2 run lead and Soph Topher Ellis finished the inning with a 2 out 2 run base hit to cushion the lead to 5-1. Some base running blunders by FC and a good smart play by TWood 1st basemen keeped the score down. Bulman started, Muller pitched middle relief and DJ Rathbone finished the 7th. Austin Wright has been hitting and playing real well for Fc, defensivly he makes tough plays at 2nd base look easy. The kid catching for Tallwood looked real good behind the plate and swings a good bat.

Redbird has a great point. A coach makes a decision based on what is best for the team. A parent usually makes a decision for what appears to be best for their particular interest. I am not sure who the critics are, but I can assure you that every pitcher needs to have a coach that believes in him. Truth be known, Kellam would have been fine if there would not have been 4 runs in the top of the first, if they would have gotten some of the runs back in the bottom of the first, if, if, if, if, if, if,....... A person could even question why during a hot streak in hitting for Kellam and a pitching change for OL, that the OL coach turned and took his hat off for the National Anthem on the s****r field. Not that I am against this, just have never seen it happen before. As far as Coach Jones, there is not one of you "fence dwellers" that knows why he made the decision that he did. One of the post suggested that they knew alot of the Kellam players. Well, I know all of them and most of the OL players, but I also know that I am just a mailman, have never been a high school baseball coach, am not qualified to be one, and would never have the audacity to believe that I could make better decisions during a baseball game. And I do stress during the game. I initially thought that one of those post came from an OL parent, after yesterdays JV game I know longer believe that. Remember, all of you parents, Team means a group on the same side.
In closing, I have watched Coach Jones since his first season at Kellam. I have never had a son on his varsity team and have seen 95% of the games. There is no other coach in the beach that can better prepare your son for the next level. He is always thinking about each player's future, and I would imagine that would be a great thing for the parents interested in their child not only getting to the next level, but being successful at that level. So parents, lets worry about making your child take a few extra swings after practice, or running a few more poles, or stretching more than he is thinks he needs to. Support your child and teach him to be a team player. Talk to your child to find out what the coach said, meant, did etc.... I know it is like pulling teeth, but communication starts at home, that is your job, not another task for the coach. There is not one thing you as a parent need to know that your child can't tell you. These people who coach your child spend more time with your child than most parents do during these teen years. They spend endless hours trying to make things right. When is the last time you as a parent thanked them for that time? Did anyone thank their coach for the time they spent on their spring break to be with your child. I bet each of you spend time on your vacations to go to work for hours. Just a thought.

Lynn Metheny

P.S. For all of those parents making all of their negative comments behind homeplate, remember the coach can hear you, the other parents can hear you, and most important, the players can hear you.
well cox is now back on track after beating bayside today 6-2. Aaron mania got off to a shaky start in the first giving up 2 runs, but was extremely dominating the rest of the game. jt townley had a good game for the falcons and is 7 for 7 against bayside pitching this year. Mania pitched a complete game w/ 10 Ks and just 3 hits and no walks, and after the first inning pitched a perfect rest of the game and completly shut down the bayside offense. congrats on the win falcons!!!!!

Kellam 6 FC 2

Soph lefty Sean Ray had a gutsey performance going 7 innings for the victory.Even though he threw over 100 pitches in this game he made the pitches when he had to. Kellam open the scoring with an uneraned run in the 2nd and followed that up with a 4th inning 2 out base hit by Brian Rahl that hit the 3rd base bag and bounced over Mullers head. Bulman struggled a bit with his control but pitched well, once again no run support and he left the game after 4 inning trailing 2-0. DJ Rathbone followed Bulman in the 5th but was touched for 3 runs when he could't find ther plate, add a few FC miscues with a couple of timely hits by Kellam. FC got on the board in the 6th with Nick Cruits rbi triple and scored on a Bulman Sac Fly. FC Threaten in the 7th when Ray lost his contol a bit but ended the game with a 3-2 bases loaded strike out. FC must have stranded 8 or more runners in scoring position but you have to give Sean Ray credit for making pitches when it counted.

Want to commend Kellam and Sean Ray for a great performance today. Those kids played really hard. Need to make one point---if you know Sean Ray is pitching and he is a lefty (and a GOOD lefty!) why would the FC coach hit a lefty in the 4 hole and leave Cruitt standing with his shin guards on. Cruitt is a Division I ballplayer and I have seen him hit as low as #7 on the batting order---insanity. My point is wouldn't it had been nice to see a righty against a righty instead of a lefty against a lefty! Just my observation! Nick Cruitt has got to see the opposing pitcher in the first inning---makes so sense for him not to.
Salem 8
PA 7
8 innings

Another extra inning game for PA. Hudson struggled to find the plate today; Buffington was hit pretty hard in the first then settled down for 4 innings before the bats came back for PA. PA was down 7-3 in the 7th and again made a gutsy comeback to tie the game, just couldn't hold it in the 8th. Brandon Hendrix came in and relief and did a great job. Congrats to Buffington on 2- HR, McAloose for PA had a dinger also. Another exciting game to watch.
