Landstown 5 Princess Anne 3

As expected a very intense game. Tomchick pitched for PA as Lawhorn went for Landstown.

The Cavaliers got on the board first in the top of the third. With one out and a runner on first (hbp; one of four on the day) Zach Smith hit a soft-liner down the leftfield line; aggressive running placed runners on 2nd and 3rd. With the infield drawn in, the next batter hit another soft-liner landing out-of-reach of the SS in front of 2nd base and into CF; scoring both runners. (PA 2-0)

The Eagles would bounce back and tie the game in the bottom of the third. Cameron Day would lead ofwith a BB; Cameron Butler followed with hardshot past third that went into the left field corner for a stand-up double scoring Day. After a fielders choice advanced Butler to third; with two out Mike Fedunewiecz lofted a softliner over the SS head to tie the game.(2-2)

PA would add their final run in the top of the fourth with one out an error, a hard hit ball down the right field line advance the runner to third and then another error plated the run. (PA 3-2)

The Eagles would go ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the 5th. Alead-off walk to Jeremy Sandifer who would advance to second after having to commit to far out in the base path. Kyle Lawhorn would deliver on a double into the leftfield corner. Pinch-runner advanced two third on a groundout, then scored when Cameron Butler hit a slow chopper to third forcing a hurried throw that ended up of the mark. (L 4-3)

Landstown would tack on a security run in the bottom of the sixth when another lead-off walk; this time to SS Raymond Mance was followed by a gap double to right by Mike Fedunewiecz.(L 5-3)

Cameron Butler relieved Kyle Lawhorn (98 pitches) in the top of the 6th with one out and one on.; without allowing a run in 12/3rd innings. PA had runners on first and third(top of 7th) when a ball hit the runner going to 2nd for the last out of the game; it appeared to hit his heal as it kicked high in the air.

Ben Tomchick looked very strong early, but the lead-off walks would come back to hurt him.

Tyler Pitt (PA) hit the ball hard a couple times; Ross Cardwell(PA) looks like a real good hitter.

Great game where you could feel the tension in the air.

It was nice to meet you wgarlick.

Congrats to Mike Fedunewiecz's father Joe (whom his out to sea) was promoted to Master Chief today.

Thanks saipanwarrior,

This season so-far has been a first of many big wins, but I would agree with you that this would be near or at the top;considering what was at stake and all.

I say this as a compliment to PA; as you already know, they lost alot of top notch players from last years squad. Coach Hunt and the players that have come in and stepped up to position PA at the top of District deserve a tip of the cap. This is a testament to a real good program.

As for Landstown, we may not have the biggest players or the most talented, but to win a game against arguabley the one of (if not the)top pitchers/players in the district (Ben Tomchick) speaks volumes as to the confidence this young team is gaining. Every game from here on out will be difficult and must be played one at a time with equal intensity.

There is alot of work to do to think of Landstown as anything other than a football/track school.

Great game to watch!
Lawman, I only know who a couple of the players are on Landstown, however, there are a handful of guys that have some size and power. There also appears to be some that have talent. It really is good to see Landstown put a competitive team on the field. It is not just a football/track school, I believe it also has won basketball and s****r; my point is, there are plenty of athletes in the school.
Pitcher for PA looked pretty close to the zone, but Landstown was able to take advantage of PA's mistakes. Well done!
Not sure of your comment about the Cardwell kid being able to hit because I think he was the kid who got hit twice or was that the other PA kid that got hit twice?????
The remaining schedule for Landstown does not appear to be that difficult, though I do realize on any given day anybody can win. After all, ODU beat Northeastern tonight 10 to 0, Shawler had 18 strikeouts and it did not rain. Anything is possible!!!!

Cox continued their roll with a 9-1 win over Bayside. An 8 run 5th inning proved to be the Marlins undoing. From Hamptonroads.com

Cox 9, Bayside 1

Ryan Mattes (4-2) pitched six strong innings as the Falcons (7-7, 6-4) toppled the No. 10 Marlins.
Chris Taylor, Drew Wilkinson and Chance Valentine had two hits a piece for Cox and combined for four RBIs.

Cox 9,#10 Bayside 1
Bayside 000 100 0 — 1 6 2
Cox 100 080 x — 9 9 2
W-Mattes (4-2). L—Davis (3-4).

Lynn,

I thought the field looked great; the boys put alot of effort to get it ready for yesterdays game.

When I speak of size, I am referring to team-size collectivelly as in comparison to the Cox's, Tallwoods and Green Run.
Individually, we have no Tomchick, Robbie Newman or Patrick Hall. Cameron Day (#22) is probably the closes; combing size and talent.

I would agree with you that there is plenty of talented athletes at the school, only referenced football/track as benchmarks with state titles.

(did you see how the girls relay teams did at the Penn Nationals? 4th place and best amongst American teams)

I like Ross Cardwells (left-handed hitter)mechanics; yes he did get hit once that I can remember . (Lawhorn was attempting to pitching inside on the PA batters; he was getting alot of movement and had trouble harnessing his control.)

We still have Kellam,Cox,Bayside with FC and Salem. The games against Tallwood and Green Run are not gimme's. Other than Kellam, Landstown has won against the remaining teams, but Bayside and Cox are surging and you don't know which FC/Salem team you are going to get.

Parity is the rule of the Beach for 2008.

"My brothers taught me to throw strikes, and thanks to that I gave up 379 home runs in the big leagues."
