This may not help you but I've taken teams there for several years, years ago. I found it to be one of the best run events, well organized, good competition and decent fields. However, in terms of visibility, they did announce a list of scouts that were in attendance but if they were there I didn't see them. Please know that the last time I was there was around 2000. I have no idea the age group of your team but if you want the best visibility attend any of the PG events, especially the WWBA summer events, BCS summer events and if they're the right age the best events by far for visibility besides those already mentioned are the tournament of stars, area code games, east coast professional showcase, and the WWBA Jupiter World Championships.

agree with the above, noting that many unseen scouts may have been in attendance, but unseen or were not too efficient because the fields were so widely scattered w/some 45 min away from each other

the Black Swamp near Bowling Green (oh) is another good one

Our 16u is going down there and it says it has over 80+ pro and college scouts attending.

Not at 16U.....not even close.  The fields are spread all over NW Ohio...unless your team has a stud...or the team you are playing does....don't expect more than 2 or 3 coaches....and no pro scouts at 16U....

Beast of the East has always been in WV I think.  Maybe you're thinking of the Battle in the South???

The Beast is huge with age groups (12U to 19U) that are very wide all at the same time so you will need to evaluate the fields your specific age group is playing on. Big positive is guaranteed games (6 to 9) versus most tournaments (3 to 5) The main tournament location is in Wheeling WVA but fields are in OH to PA and WVA. tournament is well run and the scout draw I saw was at the championship of 16U and the 19U level and then not large.  They play on some nice fields at the higher age groups (Franciscan University in Steubenville OH, Bethany College etc.) Teams are wide ranging from good to very good, or better yet "regionally elite" all the teams that made it to the Sunday Championship brackets had a prospect or two or 3 on the roster but they were not Evoshield or Rawlings or PG with 10 or 12 on the roster.  If you want to play ball you will get plenty and the price per game is cheap and the competition is good to very good.

We will be going this year also, a buddy of mine went last year and he and the team enjoyed it. Liked the format that whatever spot you finish in your pool you play the teams from the other pools that finished in same spot. Said it seemed to make it more competitive on Sunday. Also getting more games than other tournaments at cheaper price.

We're going for sure, 7 games sounds damn fun and it falls 4 weeks into our summer travel schedule so the boys should be rust free from diluted school ball.  Not a big fan of driving hither and yon to different fields but it will be cool to be back on the road with 2017 talking ball.

OBulldogs, what age is your kid playing, we're 16u.

With this tourney now behind us my synopsis:

1) Decent competition, we had some battles but a few lopsided wins in pool play

2) Fields: we only played on three and two of them were terrible, no grass infields, bad dugouts, never before seen configurations...our "death" inning in first round bracket could have been avoided if not for the netting hanging over the backstop in fair territory that collected a foul pop sure out...

3) Umpires:  I've never seen so many prima donna umps in one tourney.  At least three in 7 games thought they were bigger than the game themselves.  We adjusted and it was OK but why do these guys think everyone is there to see them ump??

4) Friendly as heck people:  from the guys running the fields to the wait staff at restaurants the folks in that neck of the woods (literally) were very friendly.  Great hospitality (except the umps!!)

5) D1 Coaches:  actually saw two, watching one kid on opposing team.  Kid had a BAD game though.

My obervations from our weekend:

1. There was some good competition.

2.Coach Bob I agree with you on the umpires. We had a kid hit a 7th inning grand slam (we eventually won) that both umpires signaled fair and then when our kid hit 3rd base the home plate umpire changed his mind and said foul.

3. A game before us had a bench clearing brawl with a coach(Upper Deck) starting it by punching an opposing player and no one was disciplined.

4. Where did the net thing come from over home plate? We played Sunday at a field that had one of those and it probably stopped 5 -7 balls from being outs.

5. Overall not a bad experience for our team but probably not returning.
