We have had many discussions on this site regarding ratings , ranking etc and I would like to take it one step further that the showcase people ratings.

We have found that we can look at a player as a certain level type player and a college coach sees him and says I like what I see and that coach is coaching at a level higher than what we saw the player at.

Another aspect in this "evalauation process" is getting to know the player. I cannot tell you how many players who have played with us came in with us thinking they were at this level or that level---after being with them from August to October things might change, positively or negatively

What I am trying to say is that the bottom line is one that may change---all coaches see something different--they do not all see the same thing in a player

Thus if you are now sitting waiting for a call do not give up--as the dust settles after early siginings, freshman not making it thru the first semester and players looking to transfer a lot can happen

Folks there is so much that goes into the process and as long as you work hard at it good things happen

FOOTNOTE: my own son did not get his situation until late May and it was at a Division I program---So YES good things can happen provided the talent is there

One of my favorite posts of yours

This really hit home with us, and Justin's experiences throughout his college search. Your words are so true, and these players just need to remember.....sometimes it takes just ONE person to like what they see and believe in them. Until then, Don't give up!

Your words are a very nice reminder to the Seniors going through a very stressful time right now.
It is great to know good things can still happen, but I have a question. My son will qualify for academic aid at most of the schools he is interested in. However, most scholarship applications and acceptance letters have to be returned long before May. Do these guys that get recruited/offers late still have a chance at any academic scholarship money?
Do you mean that schools will give academic scholarships in the late spring or early summer to students that did not apply for the scholarships by the regular deadlines? My son has applied and been awarded scholarships to several schools already, but he won't really know where he will end up until baseball season. I just wondered if we should only focus on the schools where he is already accepted.
If a coach wants your son, they can get just about anything done before he sets foot on campus, even later as BHD suggests with you paying and receiving credits later on.

However, keep in mind a student athlete falls under different academic scholarship rules than a regular student. Depending on division as well.

Don't worry about, keep pursuing.
Thank you TRHit for the encouragement. I left your post up for my son to read last night after he came home from practice/the gym. This is a very stressful time for me - but he seems to quietly know that something will work out for him. His calm steadiness amazes me! I think we as parents want our kids to have opportunities so badly! A little perspective now and then is sure helpful - keep it coming!!!
Thanks agian to all posters on hsbbweb - although I don't post often, I read faithfully!
cecatchmom,
situation with my son was a litle different in time frame but very similar to other posts here. D1 coach in our area had seen son play for couple of years and knew him. in late summer at travel ball WS (late july) i asked coach where he saw son at talent wise. coach said, defense, mechanics all good, need to get stronger, work on bat. probably need to go to JUCO, get some games and we'll be watching him. Son went to weight room next week, worked hard, continued to work hard and had a great fall ball season (and it was instructional and local highschool league). Signed with JUCO. Coach at D1 saw him play during last part of fall ball. Saw the improvements, the work ethic and signed my son to scholly in early signing period.

I read here faithfully also, post hardly ever, but the overriding message here is work hard, dream hard and put yourself out there. Good things will happen. thanks to all who post here, this is an amazing website. wish i would have found it sooner.
