Does anyone have a web address for some pictures of the Bellaire baseball facilities? I have read they are nice and would like to see them. We are getting ready to build a new field at our school in Idaho, and I am trying to gather ideas. Also, I have noticed that many schools in Texas (and elsewhere) are moving toward fields that do not have dirt basepaths to and from home. Why is that? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think that most of us leave the baselines grass because it is less maintenance, and it looks nicer, IMO. Because of all the rain we get in Houston early in the season, most have infield tarps, but it still helps. The only drawback, is the wear and tear. We practice Baserunning, and run downs on a practice field, but after hosting 3 tournaments, it still looses a little color near the end of the year. I also think that a painted baseline looks real nice under the lights!!! Ready to get started, 1st day of practice Feb. 2nd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The maintenace issue is why we have the grass basepaths at my sons high school(less dirt to dry after a rain). We used to use a rye grass in the infeild so it would be green pretty much year round, but now the entire field is bermuda and we haven't had the problem with wear and tear like we did with the rye. The bermuda doesn't stay green all the time but in the spring and summer you can't get a better looking field.
