Wow, we just took our last measurements (tests) for our baseball team. We have been very good at recording strength/flexibility gains this off-season. I am very proud of my young men. Every kid that came starting the second week of September to this point, has had signifcant gains in both strength and flexibility. Measuring the bench today one of our players has gain over 55 lbs on his bench since day one. Note, he was so weak that I didn't think he would make the team. On vertical leaps, no player that came on routine basis jumped less than 9'7." My assistant is going to do the math to see what the real gains are due to height measurements but again, based on those first test, this is significant. We had 5 from a squat, jump and slap 10 feet. Note, we only have 2 kids that are over 6'1". In fact, the majority of my team this year will be 5'8" or less. Our ss vertically slapped 10'5." Well, I know that they check on here from time to time and so, I wanted to throw some praise their way in this forum.

As far as the 4 or 5 that didn't come, not only did they not show increases from last year, but also, they showed a decline. One showed a significant decline. He didn't jump 8'8!"

It is too complicated to explain here. It consist of 14 stations including box work, cone work, heavy and speed jumping ropes, alternated sprint - jog - sprint work and medicine ball work. We do 30 seconds on and 30 seconds off. We do 2 sets then rotate. We have tried to maintain good records but, to be honest, with kids coming in from various sports and knowing that the workouts are voluntary, I haven't been as dilegent as I should have been in the past. This year because my Assistant coach has been able to keep excellent records, we can actually tell the increases. Oh, we have had 3 measurements to this point and will continue our workouts until the week before tryouts when we will again take a rest from all lifting and plyos to let our body recoup. If you asked me where I got this stuff, I spent one summer just reading on lifting and looking at videos on this stuff. I incorporated what I thought was best for us but under the supervision of our trainer. Tomorrow at 6:30 in the morning, we will go again. We go Tuesdays and Thursdays with the plyos and lift Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Naturally, this is structured as well and we have all of these measurements on computer. I love technology.
