Berkshire baseball Tournaments

My son played in 3 or 4 16u Berksire tournaments last fall. Not only were there no colleges in attendance but they were very low quality tournaments. Teams went from average to bad. It was a waste of time for a team that was preparing to go to Ft. Myers later in the fall.

I cannot, however, comment on their 18U tournaments if that is what you son is attending.

Yes, 18U

We played 18U a few weeks ago, and the only coach we saw in attendance was the one we had invited personally. I thought the level of competition was decent, though. There was a fairly wide talent level between the teams we played.

My son played in three of the 18U ones last year. You know the line about you never know who's watching, well after a cold night game where it looked like no one was watching, it turns out that the plate ump was the local Penn State coach. The coach for Kutztown was also at some of the games on that campus. Was it worth it? Son had a good time and the games were competitive for the most part and as an '11 he got a taste of what it would be like against the varsity guys in the spring.

At the very least, have him contact those coaches and let them know that he'll be playing.

Berkshire says that they sound out information to a lot of college, but the only coaches that really show up are the ones that's fields get used. That isn't that bad if you get to play at Kutztown, Alvernia, etc. which are solid smaller school programs. Competition varies and the the Berkshire Red Sox are usually very tough.

Scouts don't go to 16U games unless there's a stud playing. You will see PA small colleges coaches at 18U events. The Berkshire Red Sox are an ok team. I don't know about tough.
