Berry is outside of Rome, Ga in the Smokey Mountains, so the campus is quite beautiful and very spread out on a large tract of land--rural in feel. They have a new science building and a few other new facilities. They are usually listed as one of the "best deals" in college ranking systems (cost vs education). It's a small college and they have a great student work program to offset tuition costs that many students participate in. Historically backed financially by a member of the Ford family, and more recently by the owner of Chick Filet, Truett Cathy. Good endowment.

Rome is the home of the ATlanta Braves' minor league team Rome Braves--Francouer played there--and so that love of baseball and support by the community reaches into the college and high school arena.

Most of the college's students and players are from GA, so there isn't alot of geographic diversity IMO. The team competes pretty well in their conference, usually going better than .500 Coach Beasley has been there for 9 years. I hear he's a good guy to play for.
I know you meant well quillgirl, so I'm going to be nice. The Smokies aren't really close at all. The closest mountains wuold be the foothills of the North Georgia mountains. I'm from Rome. My parents still live there. If my wife could get a job paying what she makes in Atlanta, we would be there. Great small town feeling. You are right. There is a love of baseball in the town. Lots of youth programs and parks. And of course you were dead on with Rome Braves. One of the nicest minor league parks around. And it is about 1 mile, give or take, from the main entrance to Berry. The campus is one word, beautiful. If Berry doesn't work out, but you like the area. There is another smaller school about 2 miles away, Shorter College. If these schools offer you the academics you want and the baseball is there, you couldn't ask for much better surroundings.

No-e2, sorry if you were offended in some way and had to be nice... I believe we agree on most everything about Berry except the mountain range it is near. You are right. It's closest to the foothills of the Blue Ridge (not the Smokies) and just outside the Chattahoochee National Forest, also not too far from Chattanooga, TN. The Smoky Mnts are between TN and NC--otherwise we agree on everything else.

Agreed, Shorter is another fine school in the area, also a 4 year Libral Arts school. It's affiliated with the Baptist Church. Usually, it is not ranked quite as high as Berry in academics or admissions requirements--but it's not that far behind. Another option: Young Harris is a JCO with a GREAT baseball tradition, and it's not far away from Berry and Shorter. A good number of transfers to Berry & Shorter from YH.

In fact, YH is having a Showcase on Sept 30 with coaches from all the surrounding colleges, Berry and Shorter included. Might be worth a trip.
