just because they are fun to say on the air.
Then there's this one:
Mariekson Gregorius, which I think sounds like a physics professor.
As Eddie Andelman said at the end of The Sports Huddle ... "Good night Pumpsie Green, wherever you are." In that era there was also Choo Choo Coleman.
I remember when the Dodgers didn't have names on their jersies. They were about to do it until Billy Grabarkewicz made the team. The name didn't fit across the shoulders.
I haven't gone back to read this entire thread, so excuse me if these are repeats:
Interesting bit of trivia about Pete LaCock...his Dad was Peter Marshall, the former emcee of the Hollywood Squares (back in the day). I'm guessing Pete LaCock was actually Pete LaCock, Jr., and the network wasn't interested in having Pete LaCock, Sr. be the emcee of the Hollywood Squares. [Actually, I looked it up and Peter Marshall's real name was Ralph Pierre LaCock. Given that he went by Peter, is it fair to assume he may have gone by Pierre LaCock? Any chance he was related to Pepé Le Pew?]
Alright, I should've checked first before throwing out Van Lingle Mungo (HaverDad beat me to that one) but it seems Urban Shocker was a new to this thread. And how could I have forgotten (in the Pete LaCock tradition):
Let's not forget Billy Jo Robidoux
Here's a couple:
Former Seattle Mariner, Wake Forest All-American, and long-time friend: Brick Smith.
Current UNC Freshman: Skye Bolt
Many, many years ago someone gave me a set of MiLB baseball player cards. One of them was for a pitcher named Rich Batchelor.
