My son has used Easton the last 2 summers but will be using NIKE when he heads off to college next fall. Easton was the first we had found with the gel in the knee section of the shin guards.
It depends on the college. Most larger colleges are bound by a manufacturer's agreement to use their brand. I know my son was provided with TPX equipment in college and was required to use only TPX brand. He liked the TPX. He is currently under a contract with All-Star and really likes their equipment as well as the TPX if not better. Like most products lines, quality will vary by the model. Whatever manufacturer you choose, try to go with the "pro level" if the funds are available.
All-Star is the best by far. Many pro catchers use All-Star and most catchers say that it seems to fit catchers of any size, not to mention it has the best padding.
My guy LOVES All-Star, but since his college is a TPX school, that's the brand he's chosen for his senior season. As always, the gear is a Christmas present, the first thing he writes on his list every year.
My son is having a problem with his Easton Stealth shin guards when the plastic split on both legs. I was able to get a replacement set since they were less than a year old, but the replacement set just split this weekend in their first use (which was at a camp and not even game usage). Has anyone else had this problem with Easton?
I was a Wilson man, but I didnt like the direction they went with their gear so now I am a Rawlings man, its very nice fitting, nothing to big, perfect fit for my body type! I think gear like All-Star may be a lil to bulgy.
My son loves All-star everything. He likes and uses Easton (it holds up really well and it was a sponsored item). He likes Wilson and thinks it compares to Easton. He is not a big fan of Rawlings. (Rawlings pro-preferred catchers gloves uses a double walled padding system inside the palm of the glove. Since the double wall is not stitched together it can have a bit of a trampoline effect to the ball if the ball hits it just right.... we just avoid the Rawlings gloves.) Dont know about the others.
