Being new to the area, what are the Best/Worst fields in the SED/Beach area? Which ones are known for being a launching pad or a pitchers park, smooth infield or gophers playground? I got to say I love the enthusiasm here from parents and fans, it is nice to have this forum to learn about the area(baseball).

My3Sonsaz,

Again, welcome to the area. I hope your son finds the success that you guys are looking for.....Also, I want to let you know, I would love to have him come play summer baseball at Lynnhaven Baseball in Virginia Beach. We are the best there is in the area for summer baseball for 19U.

I can speak for a few fields in the Beach Area......most of the coaches spend lots of time on the fields in the Beach. I would say Landstown being the newest is probably at the top of the list (Beach Tournament held here). Princess Anne probably has the best infield.....Kempsville seems to be a hitters park in my opinion. Cox has the best press box. Kellam has a major glare in the batter/catcher eyes at times.
From late summer of 2004 thru late summer of 2007 this is what R. Charles Hott Stadium looked like on the campus of James Wood High School in Winchester. Unfortunately, since Frederick County Park-n-Rec is basically in total control of field maintenance, it does not look like the slideshow below.

Sherando High School just (Spring of 2008) made some major renovations to their baseball field which consisted of moving back the backstop, installing and dropping the dugouts, install new bleachers in the ballpark of $300k-$350k range.

Sorry Billy, I would not put Landstown at the top of the list at the beach.

When Coach Wilson left FC, that field was by far the superior playing surface. I assume Coach Stubbe has kept it in good shape. With the help of dedicated individuals like Fieldbuilder, PA's complex has become, IMHO the best (and not just because my kids went there).
Maury has a great field as well. It is maintained throughout the summer for Legion ball, and the pitcher's mound is the best I have seen/used in the entire area. It is where my adult league plays, and being a pitcher I appreciate the professional feel that a pure clay mound gives. Thanks to the coaches, parents, and donors who keep this area one of the top places in the country for baseball.
