The best hitting instructor in the state is Gregg Ritchie. He is a hitting instructor in the Pirates organization and runs a winter camp in Fredericksburg. He's taught both my sons and my oldest is getting raves about his swing at every showcase. He is hands down the best teacher I've seen, (I paid for many a hitting lesson). His enthusiam in contagious and the kids love him. Good luck getting in to see him - he has a waiting list a mile long - still ... I'd get on it if you have the time to wait for an opening.
in the metro Richmond area, there are more than a few good folks, but the buzz right now seems to be centered on Mark Meleski - former minor league manager, with a professional pedigree as player, coach and manager. I believe his last stop was the AAA R-Braves as their hitting instructor. His facility is Richmond Baseball Instructors or RBI
Gregg Ritchie gets my vote for sure. Using a combination of in-depth experience, combined with expert video analysis, your son will get the right advice. His instructors reinforce what he is trying to correct, so everyone is on the same page. Perhaps Gregg's best attribute is his ability to explain the needed corrections in terms that the hitters can really understand, thus allowing them to make the needed tweaks. One Dad asked me what I would do differently if I had it to do all over again--I replied, "I would have gotten the best coaching possible at a very young age." Gregg Ritchie represents some of the very best hitting instruction you can get for your money, period.
