This doesn't exactly address your question, but I would perhaps consider saving some money during the summer and then looking at a travel team in the fall.
More college coaches and pro scouts are out and about during the fall than the summer. College assistants often coach summer teams, such as the valley, cape or clark griffith, etc., so their time recruiting is down. Pro guys have pro coverage more and more during the summer so only a few teams are out and about in full force.
Just a thought. Seems like summer teams that stay close to home end up having more exposure than others that travel... and along those lines, if money and/or wanting to see a son play is a concern, you may be better off doing one or maybe two showcase events during the summer then look at a 6-8 week fall schedule.
Just my own opinion from someone who lives in northern virginia. Only exception I might make is if you're talking about a senior going to college in the fall, in which case a travel team might be in order because there is a limited window of time left to get recruited. But for underclassmen, hit up a free pro tryout or two in the area and then see if you can get some of the local (meaning state) schools to come check you out while playing locally.
Also, I would definitely honor an invite to the Area Code tryouts or East Coast Pro in Wilmington. But my own opinion is that a good balance is necessary and you might do well to have a bit of "down" time playing on a local legion team or such, allowing easy access from the state schools during the summer. Traveling too much in the summer might actually lessen your exposure and cost you a pretty penny at the same time.
Good luck in your season.
