It's a good camp/showcase for someone who is young and hasn't had much exposure, He will get some good coaching. It's also good for someone who is projected as a D-3 player, there will be some D-3 coaches there and he will get some exposure. If he is a D-1 prospect I would suggest other showcases that would give him more exposure by D-1 coaches.

My son was there this past summer--as a rising senior. Fantastic instruction from the college coaches. Showcase days included a good number of D-I coaches, and many of the instructors were D-I. I highly recommend it, if for no other reason than the instruction. The only negative was that it was over 100 degrees that week.
My two sons went for a total of 3 sessions-JT hit it on the head, excellent instruction. Excellent exposure, lots of college coaches as instructors, 30-40 coaches around on Showcase Day.

Advice based upon our experience:

1. Very well worth the money.
2. Sign up early. Usually it's full by mid-May, if not earlier. It does fill up every year.
3. Players should rest in their rooms every chance they get.
4. 100% all the time, lots of folks are indeed watching.
5. Send along extra Gatorade and water.

Enjoy.

This is the list of the schools that attend the camp:

University of Virginia, Lafayette College, Bucknell University, U.S. Naval Academy, Columbia University, Brown University, Niagara University, Washington & Lee University, James Madison University, Hampden-Sydney College, USC-Salkehatchie, Frostburg State University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Marist College, East Tennessee State University, College of William and Mary, University of Richmond, Franklin and Marshall College, Virginia Military Institute, Shenandoah University, Greensboro College, Fairmont State University, Radford University, UNC-Asheville, Chowan College, Norfolk State University, Muhlenburg College, Appalachian State University, George Mason University, Tusculum College, Lynchburg College, Guilford College, Bridgewater College, Mary Washington University, Eastern Mennonite University, George Washington University, Longwood University, Bridgewater College, University of Pennsylvania, Delaware State University, Liberty University, Gardner-Webb University, Virginia Wesleyan College, Dickinson College, Davidson College, Salisbury University, High Point University, Averett University, Randolph-Macon College, Hiwassee College, Louisburg College

Got some D-1's in there.
Just to add my 2 cents for what it's worth.....

My son went his Sophomore & Junior Summer.

Virginia in July if you have never expierenced it can be pretty brutal - the darn humidity is so bad.

So I will add a couple of things:

Bring plenty of changes of baseball clothes, no sweat pants - only baseball pants, I'd say at least 4 pair and plenty of socks and t-shirts.

Sunblock is a must if you have Irish blood in you like I do.

Paris Island is very tough and demanding, you had better be in tip-top shape when you arrive if you expect to make a good showing.

They do have a few washing machines that take quarters - so bring a roll of quarters.

You get a written evaluation from the coach you are assigned - this can help later on when trying to get into a college program.

I know this has been said by my good friends above on here, but You have to keep yourself hydrated (Plenty of water has to be drank) each year a couple have to be taken to the local hospital to get an IV for lack of fluids in their body.

Coach Womack and Gines have been doing this camp for over 20 years and they have it down to a science - there is NO wasted time while you are there. If you violate the rules while there you will be put on a slow train to Georgia Smile

If you get the oportunity you should by all means get there.

Best in Virginia is one of the best showcase camps in the country. I went the summers after my freshman(when they still allowed it), sophomore, and junior seasons in high school. Every year I got better and better and the instruction I recieved from the pitching coaches there was some of the best I have ever recieved. It also got me very good exposure. I think that it is a good reason that I am playing college baseball right now.
I stayed at the Comfort Inn in Farmville, it's about 10 minutes from the field. There is a shopping center down the road from the Comfort Inn with a grocery store, etc.

MWR is right, book your room early if you plan to go down and watch the games on the last day.

Some players fly in from all over the Country, they have a shuttle set up to pick them up at the airport and take them back after the the camp is over.

If you go to the Hampden-Sydney College website www.hsc.edu/ last entry on the main page...they have a visitor thread that lists the local accomodations to include minutes by car from hotels/motels to the college.....Farmville has Super 8, Comfort Inn, and Hampton Inn.....and when there is something major going on at the College....they fill up early....so it's good advise to book early....
Marina,
Now thats a thought, a min fridge. I wouldn't think it would be a problem, players stay in dorm rooms (2-4 kids), there was room for my son's oversize 5 day cooler, should be room for a mini fridge, and they have electricity. Some brought tv's, video games, etc.
good thing you book a hotel, cause HS also has basketball and s****r camps going on at the same time.
