I know this is for "players only". I'm old now, but I used to play, if that counts.
Kevin,

Greg Maddux-hate the guy-but he has done so much with so little talent
I understand the "done so much" part, but I'm totally confused by the "with so little talent" part.
Greg Maddux has not only one over 300 games, 4 Cy Young's, but he has been awarded the "Golden Glove" as the best fielding pitcher more than any active pitcher. When he signed out of high school he was a power pitcher, up to 94 mph. He learned and had the talent to figure out how to win "BIG" in the Big Leagues. Plus he was not the tall, big, prototype RHP.
Don't take this the wrong way, but how do you determine talent? OR lack of it?
In my estimation Greg Maddux is one of the most "talented" pitchers in history.
I did notice you mentioned him as your pick for the best. That's a pretty good choice.
