"Practice."-Tiger Woods when asked what he would do after failing to make the cut at the U.S. Open. "When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stone-cutter hammering away at his rock perhaps 100 times without as much as a crack showing. Yet at the 101st blow, it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before." mtownfan

Fastball has to the Ryan Express, hands down. Everyone knew he'd throw it, and they couldn't hit it. Best deuce is Barry Zito - when he's on, it's filthy. Best slide piece may be a toss up between Brad Lidge and K-Rod....K-Rod's is ridiculous (if you've ever watched it from behind the backstop, you know what I'm talking about). Best change is Johan Santana.
Coach Knight,
You are 100% correct about K-Rod's slider, it is so freakin filthy! And he has a 98 MPH fastball to add with it so the slide isn't so predictable. And my idol Zito has a sick curve. Cubs starter Rich Hill has a great one too, but not like Barry's. Best cutter is Rivera and the best split is Johnny Smoltz. Best change has to go to Trevor Hoffman. I saw a Padre game the other day and it has so much movement on it. The best power fastball is the Rocket today, but I think it will soon be replaced with Oswalt. Best slow pitch is not Wakefield's anymore, it is Casey Fossum's 59 mph curve.

Best FB JR Richard, Houston Astros - personally saw him throw a FB 105 mph on the stadium gun at Candlestick Park. Threw a No-No that day. Should be in the HOF instead is probably still homeless.

Best CB Sandy "The Man" Koufax - saw him throw a non-no against the Giants at Candlestick.

Best slider tie between Fernando Venezuela - Dodgers and Robb Nen - Giants, 94 mph. when on, just untouchable.

Best knuckleball - Phil Neikro

Best cutter - Mariano Rivera by far.

Best Backdoor cutter - Greg Maddux

Best slurve - Don Drysdale

Best splitter - Roger Clemens
JR Richard was certainly on his way to the HOF-very sad story.

According to Baseball Almanac he was clocked at 100 mph at Candlestick.

BTW as good as he was, he never pitched a no-hitter in the Majors-Had 1 1 hitter.

Pitched 33 innings in "A" ball one year before being called up and did not give up an
earned run.
