I am hearing lots of talk of players out of the tidewater area but in my opinion two of the best pitchers in the state and the two best infielders in the state are in the same district. That is the Colonial district in Henrico County. By the way one of those pitchers and infielder are the same person. Justin Bristow from Godwin HS. I don't know if there is a stronger district in the state.

I think many people would agree that the 2 most sought after players in the state are probably the 2 Justins, Bristow and Upton. I've seen both play many times, coached an AAU team that competed against both players and they both have outstanding physical ability and terrific potential with their size, strength and overall ability. I believe that they are both Juniors this year.
I have to disagree with you lefty. I think hands down that the Beach district is far superior than the Southeastern district. The southeastern might have an edge at the top but if you look at the spring break tournaments I think you will see that the Beach lower ranked teams were beating up on the Southeasterns 3-8 teams.
Last year's state tournament:

Great Bridge 12
EC Glass (Lynchburg) 4

Great Bridge 14
James Madison (Northern Va) 0

Championship -
Great Bridge 12
James Robinson (Northern Va) 3

Zeke, in the past ten years, the Tidewater/Beach area has produced four state champions. You can make a case for Richmond or Northern Va, but saying those regions "constantly have the best teams" is only being ignorant.

LOL, ignorant huh?
In the past TWENTY-FIVE YEARS how many state championships have beach area teams won?
Let me help you with that. FOUR
BK102 was, I believe, trying to start a thread to highlight players across the state and immediately beach area posters jump in with blinders on saying ME, ME, ME. Eagle One, my apologies, you have always given credit where it was due. I know alot of the young players in the beach area and there are many good ones.
I'm just very tired of only hearing about one area of the state. There is some pretty good baseball played around this state.
Frankly, one reason I don't post here much anymore is because I'm a little "beached" and "NDA'ed" out. Think before you label someone as ignorant again.

Zeke,

Couple things. First, go back and read your initial post belittling the beach area and my response to that. You pretty much went out of your way to try and puff up Richmond and Northern Va, while I only stated facts...uh, Great Bridge DID win by those scores, and the greater Beach area DID have four state champs in the last 10 years. And do yourself a favor - look up "constantly" in the dictionary. Once you learn the definition of the word, you'll see that Richmond and NOVa do NOT "constantly" have the best teams. And I'm not talking about some obscure stretch between 1958 and 1972 you might have memorized title winners from.
The obscure stretch I am refering to, as stated in my previous post, is the LAST 25 years.
21 of the last 25 AAA State Champions are NOT from the beach area.
Constantly: regularly occuring
21 out of 25 isn't regularly occuring ???
How about this then, over the past 25 years beach teams have been very "inconsistent" in winning state titles. Happy??
I'm done. And notice I still haven't gotten personal with you. Smile
OK Zeke, let's do it your way. First, why did you choose 25 as the number of past years to build your argument around? Oh, you know...I'll take a wild stab and guess it has something to do with the fact that from 1971 to 1978 (the years immediately preceding your little 25-year window, which would start in 1979), Beach teams won 5 state titles. Golly gee wiz...I thought your Richmond and NOVa teams CONSTANTLY won???

Sorry Zeke, my bad. I know Valley teams have done pretty well state-wise; our Strasburg guys were runners up in Class A a couple years in a row, and consistently make the state playoffs, Handley has won titles in AA as has Turner Ashby of Harrisonburg. Each year there seems to be a lot of local talent

Out here in the non-Beach, non-Northern Virginia, non-Richmond area, players get a little overlooked as far as state-wide recognition goes, but we have a lot of A and AA schools, and not as many AAA schools. There is baseball talent all over the state, but the population centers get more ink. Seems pretty tough to get Valley players in the Commonwealth Games for example, because they're seemingly too unknown to the northern Virginia coaches.

College-wise, a lot of Valley (that's Shenandoah Valley) players have gotten very nice scholarships to play college ball in recent years, so the colleges know where we are.
When it doubt, check it out.
According to the VHSL web site, under records which date back to 1971: (33 years)

Eastern District: 11 State Champs- 8 Beach District, 2 Peninsula District and 1 Southeastern District.

Northern Virginia Schools: 10 State Champs

Central Virginia: 8 State Champs

Western Virginia: 5 State Champs

If anyone can break down the State Champs by districts that would help.
