HSBBWEBers...many of you know I'm not a huge fan of the showcase stuff. Enough said. However, I would like to be able to identify showcases in the extended Mid-Atlantic area (MD, DE, VA, NC, WV, NY, PA) that have proven track records. I frequently am asked by local folk about showcase events, and have very little to offer. I would prefer to have local folk go to local showcases since it is more likely that a local coach will see the player. I was at a high school game the other night and was sitting with a Div. I head coach and a top assistant at a different Div. I school. I asked if they ever go to showcase events out of the Mid-Atlantic region, and they said rarely if ever at all. They mentioned recruiting budget, timing, and the expense of out of state scholarship players as reasons they rarely attend.

Thanks!

Best in Virginia Camp/Showcase and Blue-Grey Showcase at William and Mary both lean heavily toward schools in the area you mention. BIV is a well-run camp, with a last day showcase, and BG is a true weekend showcase, but both offer excellent exposure to mid-Atlantic schools. BIV usually attracts 35-45 schools (some coaches are also working the camp during the week, and the instruction is superb) and BG attracts about the same number. Commonwealth Games for Virginia players is truly great exposure, but getting selected can be "interesting", depending upon where you live in the state. Tryouts for some of the 4 squads are apparently perceived to be more objective than others.

In your backyard, Southern Maryland Baseball Camp has been a great place to get seen for many years, and enjoys a solid reputation.

BIV normally fills up by early May and sells out every year. BG has some "preselects" (guys with solid enough credentials to get picked without tryouts), and some selected through tryouts.
I second the vote for Best in Virginia. My son attended, had a great time, and got some great feedback from the coaches working the camp. He received quite a few follow-up letters from attending recruiters.

In NY we have the Empire Games, and I second the notion that selection is "interesting". However, the tryouts are valuable and pretty well attended by recruiters. My son is on his current team as a result of word-of-mouth from the tryouts.
We're from NY and my son went to Binghamton, NY and Norwich, CT for College Selects when he was a sophomore last year. He's planning on going again this year because it was a great experience and between the two events there was nearly 100 colleges. I liked it too because they encouraged college and not pro's.

Two other events with good reputatinos up this way are Select Fest in NJ and Perfect Game in the Cape in MA.
