Hi Julie,

If your travels take you north of Ft. Meyers Jerseyson will be hanging out in Bradenton for the next month or so. If you see him will you remind him to call his mother every once in a while.

I think I might have shared this story before but it's kinda funny... in 2008 during the fall instructional session my son was sitting around with a bunch of the other players getting to know one another. As the story was told to me the HSBBW came up in the conversation. About 10 o'clock that night I received a text from son asking if I knew someone from the baseball website I hang out on named "Orlando". When I replied yes he told me he was sitting across the table from Orlando's son... they both agreed that Orlando and I needed to get a life.

Jerseydad that is funny stuff. Get a life! Wink

My player does not officially report until next Monday, somewhat late I think because the facility already houses 2 major league teams practicing on the backfields.
Son has been up at the field once a week for bullpens he has to throw for rehab purposes, he said it's pretty cool seeing the big league guys hanging out, but he got pumped when he saw Albert!
Seems that he has a good attitude toward this spring training, hopefully they have resolved some issues, and it will be a year without any rehab.

Our weather this winter has been really strange, I hope that mother nature cooperates in the month of March, however for those coming from up north, I would imagine anything over 50 is warm!
This will be our first Spring Training in 7 years that we won't attend. Our son has decided to hang up the cleats and I must admit I'm feeling a little bummed. We loved following his ride and I will miss it...especially Spring Training.

We're trying to focus on the positives, though. For the first time in 7 years he'll spend his birthday, Easter, and 4th of July at home with his family. We'll get to spend weekends with them by the pool all summer long, grilling out, and enjoying our grandbaby. His baseball journey has given us so many wonderful memories, but I know many more wonderful memories are yet to come.

For those of you attending your son's first Spring Training...enjoy every minute. I'll never forget the first time I saw our guy in a pro uniform. Priceless! Time sure flies when you're having fun. A part of me wishes we could do it all over again. However, our son is ready to move in another direction and we'll support wherever that leads.

Every year, before he would leave for Spring Training, I would remind him in a little note that we would love him even if he didn't play baseball. This year we'll show him that we mean it.

TxMom - I am sorry to hear that but proud of your classy response. Indeed there is much to be thankful for

I heard an interview with Anika Sorenstam the other day on my way to work. She retired at the top of her game. She said she no longer had the desire to do what was necessary (off the course) in order to prepare the way she felt she ought to. She said she no longer felt like grinding (working out/practice) even though she still enjoys golf. She talked about how much of life she was missing and how much she has enjoyed her new life as a mother and with her other activities.

I am going to bump this thread into the main forum. Please send TxMom all our best wishes!
TxMom,

Wow, it feels to me, too, like it was just yesterday that we were all cheering for Daniel's first callup to the big leagues. Hard to believe that was 2005, and that he played in more than 100 MLB games over 4 seasons since then. He sure had a good run!

Congrats to Daniel and thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with us.

Good luck to all the HSBBW pros. It has to be very exciting to see your son's in big league uniforms and then think of them in their first LL uniform. Wow.

jerseydad, give Q my best. If he's ever pitching in the area please drop me a PM. I'd love to see him pitch now.

TxMom - I had Dan on my fantasy league team a couple of years ago. Congrats on his baseball career and best wishes on his next phase.

08Dad - the HSBBW connection is true. Whenever I read or hear about a son of one of our posters I feel like I know them.
I got to see Dan a number of times--first at ASU when they were playing ASU--also got to meet his mom there---got to see him a number of times when he was with the SF farms team in Norwich CT

He was a very fine player--it just shows how tough it is to not only get to the "SHOW" but to stay there

He had a great run and he will be fine as him the parents
Thanks, everyone.
I spent some time last night reading through my old posts, reflecting and remembering. HSBBweb has been a part of my life since 1999, when he was a senior in high school. It's interesting that the oldest post I could access was about his first Big League Spring Training, back in 2004. It reminded me of how blessed we've been, how much I have loved being a part of this HSBBweb community ... and that God loves our boys even more than we do and will always hold them in the palm of His hand.

Again, thanks so much, for being a part of my life. It has meant so much!

Hey Fungo - here is another nice one for you that my son caught a few short hours ago. He is in Florida and spending a few days with my parents near Cocoa Beach. This is very near the Washington Nationals spring training home. My son has a friend on the Nationals and they went out bass fishing on a golf course. He'll be headed to his Spring Training home on Tuesday at Port St. Lucie Florida with the Rays.
