Some have guessed around it but I am proud to announce that Oakton's Joe Rizzo has been selected to play in the Perfect Game All America Game.  He will join several EvoShield Canes teammates.  Very proud of Joe.  I've enjoyed coaching him and watching him grow.

It may not be a big deal to some of you but it is huge to me.  Joe and his family are great people.

Awesome, congrats to Joe and family! This game is televised, correct?

Atta boy Joe!  Sweet reward for all the hard work put in to make yourself better.  Congratulations to him + his supportive family.  Well done!

He was a pretty happy camper when PGStaff came over to give him the news. So thanks to all (both here and elsewhere) for your recognition. He truly appreciates it, and that isn't an empty platitude: he really does appreciate the good words.

Couple of things from Dad:

1) Specific to the 2016 class: there are so many very, very good ballplayers in the Commonwealth, from those that are recognized by PG, e.g., Bobby, Noah, Jalen, Garrett, Michael, Khalil, Cayman, etc., etc., to those who deserve greater recognition, e.g., Jake A., Jared D., Logan D., Justin A., etc., etc. So it really is something to be considered a part of this excellent class of players, and receive this honor from PG.

2) And there have been some tremendous ballplayers that came through VA who attended the All American (formally Aflac) game. I went through AA history and collected these alumni:

Ethan Carter

2008

Menchville HS, Va.

Jake Cave

2010

Kecoughtan HS, Va.

Josh Henderson*

2011

Home Schooled, Va.

Jeremy Jeffress

2005

Halifax County Hs, Va.

Jared Kubin*

2003

Oakton HS, Va.

Deshorn Lake

2010

Menchville HS, Va.

Kyle Long

2007

St. Anne's Belfield HS, Va.

Daniel Marrs

2007

James River HS, Va.

Neil Ramirez

2006

Kempsville HS, Va.

Justin Upton*

2004

Great Bridge HS, Va.

Justin Bristow

2004

Mills E. Godwin HS, Va.

The ones with asterisks were marked as pure position players by PG (including that Upton kid). Joe's the second player from Oakton HS. And I'm hoping that VA continues to receive greater recognition for its baseball talent.

On the other hand: I wish he'd clean up his room a little more often than once a decade. Thankfully he has a girlfriend, which necessitates the need to shower regularly.

Awesome stuff, Joe.  So happy for and proud of him (hey, I can say proud...I coached him for a season...he could pitch back then, too!).  J (thanks for the S/O) and I will see him tomorrow down here in Nashville and will congratulate him in person.  The real question, is the (really) long hair gonna make a comeback?!
